Hi there,
on your model you can simply install original schoks and springs from an 80-series, they fit perfectly and you'll have a +7cm raise.
it fits perfect!

I forgot to mention: one shock support has to be modified, brakelines have to be extented as the breathinghoses and weightpropotionner(brakes)

Ok, so i guess mine is a 2 door one.

Anyway what i'd love to see are pictures of some double shock suspension on any of these lj or bj models. I like to see how the secondry shocks are mounted.

Is there a reason you have to run dual shocks on each wheel? I would start off with the biggest bore shock I could fit in there and see how it goes.
Ive seen some local 75 series and RJ70 set up with single shocks and they seem to get through the Gascoyne Dash 500klm desert race.

Rosco, you are probably correct. A big bore shock probably IS the way to go. However my expereince with EMU shocks + Springs complimented with Rancho 9000 was very good, at least on my Defender. I am hoping to duplicate the same ride quality and handling on the LJ. There is a strong possbility that the set up may work as well on LJ as it did on the Defender. Let see what happens. I have already bought the shocks, springs etc and will probably have them installed by the end of the month when I return to Pakistan.

In the meantime, answer this one for me. For high speed rallying what rim/ tire size would you recommend? i am thinking about going with 15 inch so as to maintain a low center of gravity. What do you think?

Also someone told me that LJ are no good for rallying as they are not built as tough as the BJs and HJs, and that they also cannot go where BJ and HJs can go.. is that load of bull?

Thanks
Sajid

I think the light duty will be ideal for racing due to its lower weight ,however the 2LT may not have enough speed.
Some of the guys in oz use petrol engines from the Celica,Supra,Lexus range or V6 Holden engines in their LJ70 when they want speed.
I think this is one time a diesel needs ditching.

In regards to the dual shock, the Defender was probably a bit heavier than the 78 you have now

you have the same frame size and strength as the BJ it is just the ring and pinion size that is smaller, the LJ is 8 inch and the BJ is 9.5 front and rear

Ditch the 2LT for comp and install a 1JZ (280) or a 2JZ (300+HP) that will give you all the power you need :)

MY GREEN handles very well as a dirt car :) i expect you have tossed everything out you do not need? A 1KZ/1KD would be far better than a 2LT if you wanna stick with a diesel donk.

that LJ71 brings back memories, i had one just like it.
unless you already have ordered your springs then contact Dobbinson and get them there. OME are NOT the springs you want. i have run both manufacturers on indentical trucks at the same time. OME on my wifes truck and Dob on mine. the OME is okay but the Dobinson will allow you to jump your truck without bottoming out, they handle better, ride better.
make sure you get the caster correction bushing and install them, it DOES make a difference to the handling.
PS9000 is the way to go for shocks. the rear are a different shock from each other, the front are the same for both sides.
dual shocks are for posers, proper applied single shocks are fine and actually work better since they can react quicker.
the R151 is a nice tranny behind the 2LT, shifts nice, tough enough for that engine size and for rally runs the 5th is useful, if you want to go slow then the R141 with a swapped input shaft is the cats ass.
if you are going to push the engine then do the mods that i did on the LJ78 thread. it will HELP keep the engine alive longer.
Propane Injection, the 2LT loves the stuff. 3cfm max and that engine will come alive under your foot.
Ditch the AC, it generates heat into the main rad, adds weight and clutters up the engine compartment. you want as much air flow as possible under the hood.
top mount intercooler with properly located hood scoop.

class out for today.

Also raise the rear of the HOOD 10mm or so or cut vents in the bonnet (at the back) to allow the RADIANT heat out. Most of us here run with bonnet hinges raised 10mm or so to allow the hot air out quicker.

I agree ditch the AIR COND.

removing the firewall rubber gasket under the hood helps too couple that with a 10 mm lift in the hood and you will have plenty of air flow
but
should you get an oil leak then the windshield will be the first to let you know.
