hey guys,

Recently put a brand new head after braking a timing belt on my car 3 weeks going now and having trouble with it holding coolant in the cooling system noticed bubbles coming up when i have the cap off. its not leaking from anywhere.

have i done a head gasket? its not blowing any smoke or water in the oil.

thanks luke

I've read threads in the 80 series forum that links bubbles in the coolant to head gasket issues. It's a method to tell when you have a bad head gasket.

Sounds like either a head or head gasket issue.

You can get stuff to test the bubbles for combustion gases - worth doing if you're not sure. Generally speaking, it's pretty obvious when there's combustion gases coming out of the cooling system: it's a pretty constant stream of both big and small bubbles that never lets up, and can change a lot when you give it throttle.
