Sorry - I've got a little bit lost. I thought that those are just joints.

I already have arb differential (brand new) and I don't want to change it - as you know it's not cheap set.

"THE DIFF AND HUB END OR THE SAME SPLINE. THE SHORTENING AN AXLE IS DOABLE IF YOU WANT. "
That's the e-mail that I recived from longfield axles and have no idea what is the answer - could you help me? Second question is if half axles lenght are the same?
Thanks for help

I did some work on my buddys lj 78 and the balls on the housing are bigger aswell as the birfs i think 80 series stuff is the same definatley and bigger than standard even the knuckle is bigger. i guess the regular style birfs would fit in with lots of extra space but stuff like the axle seal and felts wipers and stuff are all bigger

just a heads up:grinpimp:

So maybe you can reccomend something that fits to my axle without any problem?

i converted the lj78 axle to use fj 60 spindles and hubs aswell as the aisin lockouts. when i had the birf out it was bigger at the bell but the stub was the same length as the fj60 so the hubs fit niceley and the c clip in the hub fit perfectly.

i would think that the birf is the same as the fj80 but inner shaft lenghts will possibly be different. you would have to take yours out and measure the the overall lenght and get the longs made to your size

oops posted from my buddys username

this is from another thread but this is a size comparison of the 80 style birf to regular landcruiser or mini definitely beefier and worth using bigger ones if they fit

Thanks but I'd like to avoid axle modifications if possible. Car isn't heavy and the engine doesn't produce much torque so jl70 should survive. But if there is any set to lj70 I want one:grinpimp:

ummm, and you are comparing what?

IF your axles are out of a pre 1990 LJ then the BJ axles share the same inners and outers so order the axles for a BJ70 and they will bolt right in.
IF your axles are out of a post 1990 LJ then the FJ/PZ/HZ/KZ/LJ all share the same inners and outters.

but you do not seem to want to listen so enjoy what ever you wish to do.

My axles are post 1990 so I'll order FJ/PZ/HZ/KZ/LJ, thanks for help

humm, turns out they make the birfs but not the inners for the post 1990.
they make the inners and outers for the pre 1990.

You mean Lngfield axles by "they"? I have pre 1990 axles as well but would like to stay with post ones. Can you reccomend any other factory that produces inners and outers?

long field...
ummm, no but the factory inners are plenty strong for your application.
long field does make the outter birfs for these...

rumor has it that they will be making the inners in the future but no time frame yet....

Thanks for hepling me:) My last question is if birfs are same in both lj? As I understand they are 27-spline, so I will order two 27-spline Chromoly Birfs from Longfield official site and stay with stock inners and outers.

That's great - I'll be able to use it in pre 1990 axle if something breaks down:bounce: (for example housing).

I know that in this topic is writen too much but before ordering birfs I took out axle shafts from axles that are in my garage and got confused. I counted the spline and it has 30 gaps (I am sure that it's a wrong world but I couldn't find right one in my dictionary). Diameter of spline is 32,5mm, diameter of birf is 91mm without thickening on the edge of spline. With thickening it has 94mm. I hope that it's all data needed to choose right birf, but please help me with this. At the end of this post I would like to underline that axles were taken out of lj70 that seemed to be completly stock.
Thanks for help - I don't know what to do.

I am in the point where I don't know what to do. Guys from longfield didn't reply:/

okay, i measured the old style, new style and long field birfs for you
the inner and outter spline counts are the same.
the over all diameter of all three are the same
the flat to flat are 84mm for long field and the old style
the flat to flat on the 1990+ is 89 mm

so what i would do is order the older birfs and install. but then that is me.
