Even though all my parts are here from Canada, I haven’t had time to work on the 79. I’m going to focus a little bit on getting my HJ61 back on the road.

I didn’t have time to figure out the crooked steering column yet, but I did make a steering investment. The used steering wheels that I had were just fine, but when I saw that new gray wheels were available, I grabbed one. I figured my hands will be on this 2 to 8 hours a day, so I splurged.

2-8 hours a day , wow trafic in Austin must be really bad 😂

Best looking steering wheel in the 70 series , congrats

Pricey item but it's one of the best to have brand new :)

Nice steering wheel!

@joekatana I’m just hoping that by the time I finally get this thing done and on the road, I’m just going to want to drive it ALL THE TIME.

Reproduction 1HDFT stickers are finally in hand. They are not printed on metal foil, which is a bit of a disappointment. We are still trying to work it out with the printing company.

However, I’m going to take a bunch of these and stick them in various places under hood and on the motor in various vehicles and see how they hold up.

I hope these things don’t melt off because damn they look good.

Hello,

It will hold.

I have been focusing on trying to get my HJ61 running. If you’re following my other threads, you’ll see that I sprung a oil leak somewhere around the 12HT turbo oil line. Frustratingbut only a minor setback.

However, I did get a chance to pick up a set of 285/70 R17 Cooper ST Maxx’s on Hilux rims. This is the same set up that I had on my poverty pack 80, now owned by @davegonz. I mocked up two of them because I just couldn’t help myself. I dig it.

I remember they same thing on my build with the steering column. Back in the day when Proffits started selling these bodies/building the trucks....they made and adapter plate for the steering column that corrected the angle. I have one on my truck. Doubt they still sell them. If it would help you visualize how to make it strait I can send you a pic of mine.

@swamprunner I would really appreciate that. Thank you!

Interesting.... @Onur If I recall you were at Proffits near the end, back in the day... know anyone that might know??

We never did anything special to the #1 truck. Column went right in on the factory spot. Column was a RHD that we converted to LHD as I recall. Perfectly centered.

I’ll bet that I can just elongate the holes in the mounting bracket a little bit, and it will line right up. We will see once I get the whole dash in.

Hectic couple of days coming up but I will try and get a good photo of adapter plate.

The column not lining up has to do with using an older column in a newer body. If you have a newer column (I think 2008 and up) it bolts right in. I used a 90s column an it was cocked to the passenger side by a few degrees or so.

I have a 2006 column I believe, mates right up to the 2001 (not 90’s era) wiring harness.
