In my old 89 fj75 i pulled my open wheeler out as i was going to weld it to lock it as it was allways spining one whhel or the other and im pretty sure Aus cruiser utes come std with rear lsd in 90 or 91 so another reason i though i had a open wheeler
Pulled my diff out and ohh what do you know it allready has a lsd in , so thats how non functional my rear lsd was

I think nearly all aussie models were LSD,all mine have been They have the KO85 designation on the firewall ( 5 is or LSD)

Not to sure i thought all 198x cruisers were open wheelas including the 60 series my brothers fj73 is a open, when i was diff code hunting my 75 codes matching to codes on the internet said it had a two pinoin open wheel or something
When i pulled my diff out inside the casing had a huge gash so i presumed the orig diff centre flew appart and took a chuck out of the inside and the PO must have replaced it with a 4 pinion lsd as there are heaps or cruiser rear lsd's in wrecking yards
and same when a mates hj75 86 blew his rear diff pulled out and it was a single spinner and we put a lsd in it

KO82 is the open diff and KO83 is the LSD with 2 spider gears, but Ive never seen a KO83.
All the Jap ones were either open or locked (KO84)
Is it possible the ones you saw had been replaced with front diffs or diffs from 45 series and early 60 series?
I cant remember seeing an aussie spec 70 without an LSD in the rear,I always check the tag to see if they have factory lockers so I dont have to ask the owner:D

the two pre 90 cruisers ive pulled the rear diffs out of to put a lsd in seem to be pretty orig and std i cant see any one pulling a lsd out of a 7x series to replace it with a open wheeler, but you never know ill have to check the code on the hj75 and fj73 next time the bonnets are up

The light duty version as had them in all the square light models after 1991, LJ70, KZJ70...well in the uk.
Maybe they put LSD's in that model only.

Also how much oil is needed for both axles, plan on changing it this weekend, but buying the oil during the week... I'm guessing, to do it, undo drain plug, drain, refit, open rear access hole, fill until overflows...

Many thanks Matt
