First of all, G'day to everybody here
I've been a lurker for a while, and I've found the archives and FAQ's to be a very helpful source of info. I bought a 1983 FJ60 late last year, my first 4WD. I'll get around to loading progress pics of my fixed up interior :)

[The Problem]
Recently, I've noticed an issue with the headlights (Hella H4-E4's). When I turn them on, they appear to be quite dull, and I'm stuck with the blue High-Beam indicator on the dash instead of the green indicator that ought to be there. At first this problem was intermittent, now its stuck on the high-beam mode, with dull lights. When I flick it into HB, the left headlight works and my right one goes out!

As of about a week ago, my instrument panel lighting has also been intermittently failing to come on...

[Checked, so far]
I've checked my fuse panel and none of them are blown.
I've also taken the steering wheel off and looked over the combination switch circuitry, hoping it would be something simple like a dry solder joint or a broken wire somewhere in there... but it all looks fine.

So what else might be causing my electrical gremlins?
Any help would be much appreciated.

What wattage are the bulbs? Is there an upgraded harness for them? The factory headlight harness is a notorious weak point (barely good enough for the stock headlights), if it hasn't been upgraded along with the headlights, I wouldn't be surprised if your wiring has been getting cooked.

Thanks, I'll have to check out the headlight harness in the morning. I'm really not sure what's been done to this car when they upgraded the headlights. Would an upgraded harness look different enough that I could tell if it's been upgraded by having a look at it?

Most upgraded harnesses plug into the stock harness (for switching of relays) without modifying it, and then draw their power direct from the battery/alternator. If it is upgraded it should be apparent.
