Hi. I'm looking at having a 2 1/2 to 3" old man emu lift installed on my BJ74 in the next week or two. Anyone know a rough estimate for what this should cost to supply and install so that I have a comparison? Is there anything else I should be doing at the same time as this? Let me know.

Thanks.
Phil

Price the lift including springs, shocks, shackles, bushings, u-bolts, caster shims if the shackles are long, and maybe spring hanger pins for the fixed end of the spring through 4-wheel auto, Specter, Man-a-fre, CCOT or whoever. Add probably 3 to 4 hours labour for a well equipped shop at what...$60-$90/hour. I'm not a mechanic but this seems right as it takes me around 5-6 hours to do it in a very average garage. Budget for the cost of an alignment even though all they'll do is adjust the drag link to centre the steering wheel. The most time consuming part in my experience is busting the old shackles and hanger pins out of the springs if you're trying to save them for re-use.....probably isn't worth it if you're paying someone else to do it.

Oh Shat, I just realized that this is for a 74 and in that case you probably won't be able to get a price from Specter, MAF, CCOT websites. 4wheelauto should still be able to quote it.

I have already lined up a shop in town to do this install for me. It's not something I want to try for the first time in my driveway, especially with the snow on the ground. Doesnt sound like fun to me. I dont think the shop will overcharge me, he's been quite good so far. I'm just looking for a comparison in price so I know if he's fair or not. Although he's the only shop here thats familiar with these trucks, so I dont have too many options without going out of town. Everyone else I have talked to would rather work on a ford, and the toyota dealership here sucks! I dont trust them. I'll take my chance with Altoy.

Cool, it's hard to screw up a leaf spring lift. Make sure they grease the bushings/shackles well and use new u-bolts...get them retightened after a couple hundred km. If you experience bumpsteer afterward, try to line up a 60 series pitman arm w/ more drop. PICS, PICS, PICS!

I wish I had the time and place to do this myself. I'd really like to have a go at this, but definately not in the winter sitting in my driveway. I will take pics of the before and after for you to see and I'll post them in a few weeks.

Thats close to what I have been quoted. About 2 grand for parts and 6 hours to install, should be around the $2500 range. It's going in either next week or the week after depending on when the parts arrive. I'll let you know what it ends up costing in the end. I'll take pics as well.

You should be able to source the parts for closer to $1500. I just installed a OME kit this summer. Look on Ebay for the greaseable shackles and fixed pins to save some coin.

hey whats everyones opinion on shocks? Just did an oil change and found my rear Pax side shock somehow managed to shear itself off... I would rather replace them all with something thats going to do the job well....
