Yes, I realize this is a "pink-panties" question, but the people here seem much more informed than on the other 100 forums.

The 100 I ended up gettting yesterday has the new lexuslink, but it isn't working. I need to coach the dealer into fixing it.

Every time I turn the car on, a voice says something in Japanese. When I hit any of the lexuslink controls, an english voice says "System not initialized."

Does anyone know the fix for this so that I can get a head start on the dealer?

Thanks.

I think I read a TSB saying something about discontinuing/disabling the Lexuslink. It think possibly it was more hassle than it was worth(my thoughts/recollection only). Will have a look in my TSBs but probably best asking LEXUSBEN for some info.

It says "Anata wa Gai-jin, da ka ra, watashi wa kowareteru."

Pretty sure Lexus stopped "supporting" Lexuslink i.e. it doesn't work anymore. Pretty sure OnStar actually handled it and Lexus just contracted with them (like Mercedes).

Saw this and thought I would try to clear some things up.

First, yes the old Lexus Link is discontinued. The vehicles that still have it will be able to use it until 12-07 if the people still want to. Reason is that is when cell phone companies are being allowed to discontinue analog cell phone service. The first gen link is analog. As soon as they flip the switch - no more workie.

Second - tech_dog has a new (06) lx, which has the next generation of Lexus Link. Uses digital cell technology.

Anyway tech_dog, sounds like the system is still in Factory mode - hence the japanese.:D

Usually they put them in dealer mode when they leave the factory. Try doing this to put it in dealer mode so you can use it.
Turn ign switch to on position, while holding down the vol - (down) button, press the phone button 5 times within 15 seconds. Cycle the key and see if the message changes to a welcome.

Let me know if it works, I have yet to try it on a new one. They usually com in dealer mode. Have done old ones but not new ones. Hopefully this will even save you a trip to the dealer.

good luck, ben:cheers:

I can't believe I'm going to ask this  from Macneil as I feel like I'm about to step on a flaming bag of poo, but what does this mean in English?

It says 'I'm broken because you're a foreigner.'

What does it say in Japanese?

I can't tell. It's in Japanese. ;p

Actually, it does sound like they may have the word "Toyota" in there somewhere.

Thanks very much. I'll give this a shot and post the results, hopefully tonight.

While we're on the topic, is there any way to change the nav between English and Japanese modes on a '03 LX?

Fixing a non-initialized 2nd generation Lexuslink

I'm fixed. Here's an overview for the next person to have this problem:

I tried this, and it did not work. I then called the dealer, gave them this info, and asked if there was a different initialization sequence on the gen 2 Lexuslinks. They were completely clueless and said there was something wrong with the car and I'd have to bring it in for service.

Based on the info you gave me, I started playing around with different sequences. I'm fairly certain that the last one I tried was "Volume +" held down, with five hits on "Phone". I got a very satisfying sequence of flashing LED's followed by the Lexuslink springing to life. The on-off sequence of the ignition was not required.

This made the Japanese voice go away as well. I'm fixed, and don't need to waste part of my Saturday waiting for the dealer to figure this out.

THANKS!

I have a 2003 LX470 with I assume the Rev 1 Lexus Link.. We opted not to renew the subscription and it now has a message everytime we crank the vehicle.. " Lexus Link is not active, please press the services buttont to activate. " how do I get the Lexus Link Lady to shut up so I dont have to hear about it being deactivated everytime I get in the vehicle?

I've read that Lexus is removing the version 1 lexuslink free of charge for those who ask.

It is called a limited service campaign. Similar to a recall but has an expiration date (12/07). Call the dealer and make an appointment. They have to order a sunglasses holder to replace the link buttons, and they will also disable the ecu. This is the only way to get that lady to shut up. Some people just turn the link volume all the way down. Huge liability in disabling without doing campaign, they will also make you sign a waiver stating that you know that the link is disabled and if you crash you don't assume link is calling for help. yadayadayada.

My friends and I are guessing it meant something like "Be sure to put Lexuslink in dealer mode before leaving the factory."
