right now my daily driver is a 99 chevy z71 and i have been considering selling it to buy a newer model diesel cruiser to use as a daily driver. what is the largest power plant they put in these and what should i look for. i definitly want something very reliable and that does well over long distance and in the heat. do they tow well, unloaded top speed?

define "newer model diesel cruiser". the BJ's (60's that is) were offered in canada through '84 or '85(?), then the HJ's took over. 80 series diesels will need to come from over sea which is usually $$. Maybe some one can help confirm some of this info.

    engines:
    3B: 3.4L 4 cyl., pushrod, IDI, NA
    2H: 4.0L 6cyl., pushrod, IDI, NA
    13B-T: like 3B but TDI
    12H-T: like 2H but TDI

    Later ('90s) engine swap options:
    1HZ: 4.2L 6 cyl., 12v, OHC, IDI, NA
    1HD-T: like 1HZ but TDI
    1HD-FT: like 1HD-T but 24v
1HD-FTE: like 1HD-FT but Elec, injection pump

For a easy highway cruising and any towing, i would recommend and turbo, be it aftermarket or factory.

check out the international board for more info.
