Gonna build one, but lookin for some options. My Saginaw box is mounted a little higher than most, so I can't simply do a plate style across frame.
I have been lookin at MAF's 4+ planetary mount but not sure about it.

how high is the saginaw gear box, i used the CCOT winch mount plate and used a hole saw to cut three holes were the upper 2 bolts on the cover plate are on the box and where the nut that ajusts the gear in the box is. works fine, sorry no pics handy.

I guess it is about 3/4". I was thinking about the very same solution you did.
I would love to see how it came out.
