Let's see a picture of your BJ44 or BJ46!

All 44 and 46 are RHD. You can get a 43 LHD. Only thing is (as far as I know) most 43's were gas, not diesel.

Sorry dude, I don't want to offend you but you know nothing.
There are plenty of diesel 43s diesel and plenty of LHD 46s.
Actually I got my hands on a one-owner, 100K km LHD BJ46 in a great original condition some time last year :flipoff2:

That is a bit offensive. You say there are plenty...where are they? I have seen less than 5 BJ43's and one LHD BJ46, which would make me wonder if it was just a FJ43 or had been converted to LHD. For you to say I know nothing is ignorant. I have only owned a 44 for over 5 years.

I've done some net searching and have found a couple of European 46's. I was unaware the 46 made it out of Japan. I guess I am still learning. It was hard to find out there since almost all sites talking about the 46 points towards Japan.

The 44 and 46 were shipped to Europe especially eastern bloc countries. They were mostly used for military and industrial purposes and not used as often for personal vehicles.

You don't see too many of them any more since the rust and abuse have taken a lot of them out. When you see them for sale, they have either been taken care of (rare) and sell for a pretty penny, or are completely thrashed....

You also don't see too many of them coming here as shipping/export is a nightmare and prohibitively expensive.

ok guys, I have to clear some ideas about mwb cruisers in europe,
as breck said some secondhand 44 and 46 were imported from japan to eastern europe, africa and the rest of asia in the last decades, but toyota officially exported the bj46 softtop to france from 1982-1984. these are originally LHD, and not converted from RHD.

Before that time Toyota exported the BJ43 to europe as well, if i,m correct starting from 1973. We,ve never had the FJ43 here in europe, since it was made for the US market only.. and before 1973 as well for the japanese market.
While most countries only have a softop 43, hardtop versions were seen in france as well, not sure if these were aftermarket or original.

the BJ44 (both soft and hardtop) was never oficially exported outside Japan, and therefore only available as RHD.

The BJ46 hardtop was also for the japanese market only and therefore only available in RHD.

hope this clears some things about MWB cruisers..:)

best, folkert

So is it safe to say that LHD MWB factory hard top models are extremely rare. One of the rarest of the 40 series?

hi pete, yes that would be a good assumption... :)

as far as i know by now, the combination LHD, MWB and hardtop would be best possible as a bj43, since they were sold over a longer period to many countries, although i have never seen official toyota documentation of a hardtop on a bj43, only pictures of them on the web. ( no, not the ones with the well known columbian aftermarket hardtop :) so im not sure if they even exist... if not then that possibly rules out the existance of a mwb, lhd hardtop cruiser.

Personally, I like the RHD more than LHD. While passing is tougher (which is tough enough in a 40 series with a B/2B/3B anyway!) parallel parking is a breeze!

Not only that, but it scares the crap out of people when my dog hangs her head out of the "driver's side" window while on the road! I CANNOT wait to take the hard top off!

hi daniel, thats a great rig!!!!! :bounce:

please add your specs like vin, year, factory setup etc to the bj44/46 registry in the diesel section, so we can compare the factory setups everyone had/has.. thanks for contributing.
yours looks like its the same setup as mine... L package... whats up with the front seat covers and the missing rear bench?

Hi Folkert,

I just recently bought this,

About the seats...im not really sure what he did but they're not original. And the rear bench came with it but its not shown on the pics. Also came with an original jack, a freakin flare, and a power steering pump which he said it was optional, but im sure there's a way to make it work with A/C.

I'm also a pretty young guy (19 years old) and a forum noob. So i really dont have the mechanical experience like most of the guys here, actually no experiece at all!! So just sorta wanted to introduce myself :)

Whats the going rate for a 'Left-Nut"??

I'd be willing to give mine for a 44/46 - takers??

Here are two more BJ46 Diesels that I was lucky to find in Japan. I brought them in with hopes of finding interested buyers for them since they are so rare. I have the white 46 seen above which I have decided to keep into retirement as my final Land Cruiser. Just love the layout of the BJ46, the 3B, PTO winch, 5 speed, AC, Power Steering, Front facing rear bench seat, Brown Zebra seats are really the coolest. The one with the grey steel wheels and caps is an 83 with only 59k original miles on it. The other with white wagon wheels an 84. Both are the Japan JDM Cruisers and both fall into the LX option catagory. Both have gone to new owners.
