What gives? When I step on the brakes of my 89 FJ62 my left rear directional comes on and stays on with the brake light until I let off the brake peddle. When not braking and signaling the rear directional stays on. I am good with anything mechanical but electrical is like astro physics to me. I am selling the truck and really don't want to pass this on to a new owner.

Sound as if you have a bad ground (high resistance) in the ground circuit. Both directional and brake lights are wired through the same wire and ground to the body at the same point at the rear panel (under) When you brake, it is grounding out through the turn signal light (lighting it up). Check all your connections and see if you see any corrosion or broken wires. First place I would check is and the light bulb sockets, the ground point and then wires between the left and right lights. Good luck. Remember that electricity will always take the path of least resistance. Dave
