Before replacing these, do any of those seal swelling additives actually work without causing more harm than good?

If you are going to replace the seals anyway in the absence of an improvement, then you have nothing to lose.

You can also try AutoRx or an oil with a high ester content. Most so-called Hi-Mileage oils have esters that condition seals.

I had a slight leak at the rear main last spring. It was just enough to leave a drop on the garage floor if the truck sat for a couple of days. Switching to Mobil high mileage oil seems to have stopped the leak.

are you talking about the front and rear main or axle seals?

Front and rear engine seal leaks are what I'm looking at a simple solution for.

It may be the pan arches, you may want to take a mirror to the rear one and see for sure. As for the front one remove the stone guard and take a real good look at the seal and arch and see which is leaking. later robbie
