Anybody up in here sealed their sunroof? permanently? Washed Mulligan this weekend and then went through the auto-washer on the way out and it DUMPED on me. It's not the drains clogged, I've cleaned those. it's the gasket around the glass. It whistles going down the interstate.

Thinking about getting up there and using a tube of black toyota FIPG and then disconnecting the switches. DONE. and can still use the slide to have a glassroof if I ever wanted it.

Anyone?

Interesting thought but I'm curious if the gap can be bridged since it pops up and slides down inside too. Wouldn't hurt to give it a whirl and see how it works.

Thought about the gap myself. I had a couple of tubes of "lap sealant" I use for the motor-house roof... but it's white.

I've tried finding black, but the best I can find is grey. May go with that. It'll bridge a gap, and stretches.

re-read your post. It might not be clear that I'm no longer going to USE the opening?... just the cardboard slide and leave the glass in place permanently?

Yeah, I got the just having a porthole in the ceiling. I think you got my concern. Since the glass goes in and out, as best I can tell the gap is small but still there and I think your gonna need something to bridge that gap and also seal it up too.

ROH TAHDE!

I used a clear silicone sealant. I think it was that Permatex flowable type. Taped off around the sunroof and laid down a bead. I still have a leak from somewhere but I'm confident that I've ruled out the sunroof. Never used it and don't like 'em.

One of mine is definitely the sunroof. It floods in when in car washes, from the roof.
I'm also confident that the windshield leaks too. Mainly because I see water forming at the bottom during heavy rains, LOL. Last week, I got in the truck to go to work, and there was ice on the outside AND inside of the window! First that's ever happened.

Oh well, thanks for the tips! think I'll seal mine as well...

when an arm on mine broke and the whole assembly feel in on itself i used cardboard to wedge it back into place (from the inside) then sillyconed the exterior. it held tight as long as I had it.

I didnt disconnect the power, can you kill the roof and still have the little vanity lights? I thought it all shared a plug.

I hate sunroofs. there are only two kinds, those that started leaking, and those that are about to start leaking.

I don't see why I couldn't just pull the ceiling cover and unplug the switch(es) to the sunroof. Am I right?!

I thought there was one plug that did the up/down open/close sunroof controls, and the little light on the rocker switch.

They are different switches, three separate switches. It would be stupid to have them on the same plug even if they are on the same harness... they have to break out simply to plug in... Now I have to go out and see right now. I'll report back.

Edit: you're right, they're all on the same board. And that's got to be the stupidest thing I've ever seen Toyota do. Why would they solder switches in?! I've only ever removed the entire unit as one piece so I never dug in to the console. This stinks.

I suppose I'll just cut the wires with enough to maybe one day solder them back if that ever becomes a desire. Because the two light wires are out of the way and evident:

If the grey and white ones are the light, could you track it back to the actual plug connector and just un-pin the ground for the switch? Since Toyota switches the ground side that should kill the switch control without cutting any wires.

I was expecting to see a male/female connector. I suppose that is behind the main panel? Has to be. There's no way that solder is to the main harness... I'll dig deeper and do what you suggest, by pulling the wires out of the harness connector.

Or just cut the wires. Won't matter because once an 80 is in your ownership it no longer has any resale value :hillbilly::lol:

You shutchur mouth snake man!

Hey, I've owned three 80's in the last year and haven't spent any more money than when I started! Actually pocketed a few hunnerd!
