Right on. My wife, daughter and I are on board and excited to see you all again. 👍

Looking forward to it! Hoping to actually make it this year

I just booked a tent site at the 4J, site #9 is what she gave me. Two years ago I tried to find a FS campsite or boondocking location and failed and ended up at an AirBnB. Planning ahead this year.

Okay so the Warden is curious, but somewhat a skeptic... I need a sales pitch!!! We have 5 and 8 YO kids. We did ATL to Page, to Moab, to Estes Park and back last year and had a good balance of “off roading”, over landing, and kid focused activities. I see several are planning to bring their home team and that is awesome! I could use a little help in the “kid focused” activities area... what would the kids do in between activities where the gear heads smash trucks and talk shop? TIA for any input!!!

Assuming you mean kiddos stay in town while gear heads are smashing trucks out on the trail?

If so, in Ouray, kids like (at least my 5yo) hiking the Perimeter Trail (you can take bite-size portions instead of the entire loop) as well as Hot Springs and pool (with big water slide, inflatable pool toys like bouncy castle obstacle course thing and a rock climbing wall plus various hot tubs etc.) or several of the nearby parks to simply run around. This would be COVID dependent - this summer, only the hot springs and city-water pool were open under lowered capacity; the hot tubs and all the toys where closed off while we were there.

Also, Main Street has a toy & book store, candy shop, ice cream joint etc for another way to spend an afternoon or two. All shops were open and restaurants were following COVID guidelines - we ate outside when we weren’t cooking at our RV campsite.

Or while on the trail? Plenty of nature hikes, bug searching, and the like during coordinated trail breaks. Also, my son might ask me to wet a line in a fishy creek on occasion - pack whatever you think you might need! Kids on the trail make fast friends. Sometimes my son might fall asleep, however, due to my superior trail driving skills! Lol

Command has approved the trip. Room booked...at a minimum me and my 5 y/o daughter will be there. Possibly wife and 1 y/o as well. Looking forward to getting educated about my 200 from you experts.

As usual, weather is unpredictable. Summer storm is casual around Ouray. But I would love to run this famous trail.

My kids love Ouray hotsprings. As mention, pool slide and obstacle course was the highlight of the hot springs. I missed trail day due to the hot springs fun. Hope the Covid situation calm down in summer and facilities open up.

Is there an interest in a group campsite of some sort? Could be a lot of fun. We have stayed a few times at the Ridgeway State Park campground about 10 or so miles away. There is a great lake and swimming beach there along with some great views and hiking. I would love to circle up with some other 200 folks on this trip. Its the people in these things that really make the difference.

That's a great idea. I'll look at that place this morning.

We are still debating our summer plans and hope to lock in events in the next week. We would likely bring travel trailer. So maybe yes 😆

Looking into camp sites at the moment. I think we are going to stay in Silverton or Lake City earlier in the week.

I did camped here last visit to Ouray. It was a good campground. Just a short hop to Ouray.

I was looking into booking a site here, but online booking is not open unless within 6 months. I will look for a site when online booking is available.

Since we have a trailer I don't think a group site works for us, though in prior years we've booked a site at a nearby CG and posted it here and others will often try to find sites nearby, which is fun.

Last time we stayed up in Amphitheater CG, which is in Ouray. But it's a *very* tight CG for trailers - there are only maybe 5 sites that fit 20-25' rigs and at least 2 of them require driving the wrong way through the loop and extreme effort to fit into them. Also the road up to the CG is technically 2-way but it's narrow with a rock wall on one side - you couldn't pass someone pulling a trailer. So 50/50 whether we'll try to stay there again or stay at Ridgeway SP.

I would definitely be interested in a group camp if I actually get to make it this year. Definitely agree that the chit chatting around a campfire adds to making an event like this that much more fun

As I posted, I grabbed a site, but if there is a group campsite or group area we'd cancel our site in town to join the group.
