I'm replacing my 1980 fuel tank with new but can't seem to get the rusted screws off my old suction tube. It's rusted solid to the old tank and I'm afraid I would probably destroy it trying to get it off.

Can't seem to find this specific part anywhere, though sending units are plentiful. Stumped. I posted in the wanted section but in lieu of a used part popping up, any ideas for a Plan B? Would an FJ60 pickup work?

There is a gasket between the tank and the suction tube flange (or at least there was one from the factory). If there's rust it's likely the screws alone and not the suction tube. Screws are replaceable. I would see whether the use of a penetrating fluid and time would do the trick.

I've been using kroil for the last few days, I'll keep at it. The flange and the gasket look like one piece at this point. Trying to figure out the plan b if that falls through.

smaller needle nose vise grips work well to get at the heads of the screws.
if replacing the tank itself, just cut the screw heads and get it apart.

Winner, winner...
