Landrover/70 series comparsion Video

I made a few comments on that video and got in a heated debate with a few land rover loyalists. I have owned 9 land rovers including a defender 110. My factory locked 80 will eat any of the ones I owned alive. I would put a locked 70 against anything out there. Rovers are a decent rig like the old ford bronco, international scout, pre YJ jeeps but nothing special. The only advantage they used to have was aluminum bodies and less rust. Toyota mechanics are FAR superior and despite loving the style of the land rover, I'd never go back to the brand. A buddy of mine owns an LRIII and has had numerous problems with it. I'm a converted Toyota loyalist.

I agree any 7* over a LR any day heated haha I've been close to being banned from my comments on LR and warned several times.

My 75 series has a sign attach jeep here I'm going to chafe it to jeep or LR soon

a guy I hung out with was a LR Mekanik he went on Lr/RR runs in his original Model Hilux pickup as the LR service truck was too unreliable haha that said it all.
 
I have owned several of both brands ( 2 Land Rover Series 2A's, 1 Series lll, and a Defender 90 as well as a Toyota BJ40,
HJ45 Pickup, and a LJ78) and while I have never done any serious off roading therefore I can not discuss their capabilities in that area, I can offer an overall review. First of all, the Cruisers are a lot more reliable ( at least from my experience) and unlike the Rovers do not drown you while driving in rain. The Rovers, especially the Defender are very expensive to work on and parts are a little harder to come by here in the States. Most Land Rover dealerships have only seen the Defenders in photographs and generally carry very few parts. On the issue of rust, it is true that the Land Rovers have a slight advantage with their aluminum bodies however the steel frames and bulkheads
can rust like crazy. In a nutshell the Brits. do "simple" very well
(older Series Rovers) however are not quite as successful with complicated ( Range Rover. LR3, etc.) Having said all of this, I would be the first to admit that I throughly enjoyed every Rover I owned especially the older ones but then again I always had a backup vehicle. ..............................1978HJ45

Hello,

Gelaendewagen, or Geländewagen, actually ;). German for Rough Terrain Vehicle.

Pronouncing and writing, I guess.

I agree on a mid-90s model, up until the G was after the number. They became a bit too complicated to operate and repair after that, when the letter preceded the number.
