Cruiserdrew
On the way there
I don't know if this is a common problem...
Back in 1999 I bought my first Land Cruiser. It was in perfect shape. My thought process was like this: Will it get me to work? Heck yes, and life was good.
Now after 3 years on the 80 series list and a year on ih8mud, it's more like this:
-Are my diffs vented properly?
-Will the starter make contact or should I replace the contacts again?
-Is my tranny really inferior, or more sophisticated?
-Should I have held out for factory lockers-OMG I've got ARB's (unreliable in NJ)
-Will the PHH blow on the way to Tahoe?
-Is the Oil Galley plug a time bomb?
-Do my birfields have enough/right type of grease?
-Do I really need 2 batteries?
-Why can't we get a new 70 series in the US?
-Is that mini truck sized front diff really adequate for my needs?
-If I don't switch to 100 series pads will I run into that semi?
-Is a 100 series really a Land Cruiser?
-Are my tires OK even though they arn't MTR's?
-How much longer have these O2 sensors got anyway?
-Holy sh*t I've got a non-Toyota oil filter and it's big, I better pull over.
-Will my EGR VSV keep going, or should I carry a spare?
-Will my front wheel bearings loosen-up like Robbie's, maybe I should check.
-Is my oil synthetic enough?
-Will the cam chain slipper break?
-Is my valve lash wearing tighter or looser?
-Why won't the radio mast go all the way down?
-Just how long will my auto trans last anyway?
-Why are the front shaft u-joints 90 degrees out of phase? Is it 270 in Australia?
-Why does my CD player skip only on my favorite CDs?
And the Queen Mother of all sleepless night questions:
When will my head gasket blow???????
Seriously, thanks to all of you who have given me and others such good advice over the last few years. I'm looking forward to Cruising into 2004. But if you have sleepless nights thinking about your Land Cruiser, post up, I think there's a place in the DSM for it.
