I saw a field full of fall lambs last week, and involuntarily said "damn, that sucks."

My wife asked me why and I mentioned what a PITA fall lambs are, but she relied, "we live in the South now."

I just can't get my mind around the fact that fall lambs actually can survive winters here, and don't require constant attention like upper Midwest lambs, due to the horrific winters growing up there.

Nice to see your fuzzies doing well.
Thanks! I was surprised they bred early this year. It was 29 degrees this morning and the two day old lambs weren’t even phased. One male, one female. I’ve got three banded from the first of the year but they are small compared to the rest of the flock. The one red I left intact is full size. Does banding them stump their growth? Was looking to harvest them but they are so small comparatively.

First harvested lamb roast today.

Successful first lamb roast!
Meat was fall off the bone good! Lots of garlic cloves inserted into the meat followed by an olive oil rub down and a dry rub of kosher salt, pepper, cumin, dill, rosemary, and paprika. Marinated in fresh lemon juice and olive oil. Added some local smoked sausage and drumsticks for a feast.
