My friend has a LJ77 1995 Landcruiser. It originally came with a 1KZ-T engine, which blew (head crack). So he installed a 1KZ-TE 2005 model. This one has electronic fuel pump and electronic throttle.

The new engine came with new problems. The vehicle's accelerator paddle is too sensitive which results in sudden 'pickup' or 'jump' once you press the paddle a little. And when you release the paddle, the power goes out suddenly resulting in jerking of vehicle. The 'jerking' resulted in breaking up of bearings of rear differential. The jerk is so severe that not only it produces a metal sound but also the vehicle is almost impossible to drive.

I do not know where to start diagnosing it. So need help.

Ive heard you can put the 1KZ T pump on the 1KZ TE engine. Probably lose a few horses though.
Another solution maybe to alter how much the accelerator cable pulls on the throttle linkage ,ie change the lever action.
Some more springs fore and aft may also help.
Some of the 12HT owners have the same problem but without breaking things

roscoFJ73:

It has a throttle body sensor and an electronic accelerator paddle. It does not have any cables. What I am assuming is that perhaps there is something (some sensor) missing. Or perhaps there is some adjustment to it.

I also can't find engine manual for this engine.

I think these came in Toyota Hi-Ace. This engine also had water to air intercooler. Came with an electric water pump. I removed all that since there was not any room left for it.

The 'jerking' problem is pretty serious. There is a good chance that I break the rear differential again.

another head cracking in the KZ engine?? or is this the same as another post?
that will be a KZ77, not a LJ77.

the more i read threads like this the more i like the older, non-electical versions...

i can't help but am interested in the actual problem and cure.

I forgot these had a electronic accellerator peddle. I think you are probably on the right track though.
Someone calculated there were 52 sensors on this engine:D
They do a quite few 1KZ T(E) swaps on this site.

Gregory's have a manual for this engine(its an engine only manual).
1 KZ-TE 3.0 TD supplement

Im not too sure about the Hiace, but I do know they use the later common rail version, the 1KD FTV,so its possible it had the 1KZ TE also.
I hope your friend knows they cant repair the inj pumps on these except at the factory.
Toyota Aust only sell changeover pumps for them at $2300.
Is using the 1KZ T pump an option?

It's a LJ77 1995 Landcrusier SUV. It is NOT a Prado.

I changed the throttle body sensor. It didn't help. It's a nut shell.

hummm, the reason i question this is because the letter L dicates a L series engine...if the first letter dictate the engine then it should be a KZL77... what is the complete serial number, i am curious...

I am so ashmed... I do not have access to the truck but I have the paper work with me. It says: Chasis: KZJ77.

My mistake! The owner told me it's LJ77 so...

Sorry!

I would request forum mod to change the topic from " LJ77 with new 1KZ-TE " To " KZJ77 with new 1KZ-TE - Issue "
