Hey folks, I'm looking for a few people to beat on some Koni Raid Shocks. Drop me a PM if interested....

Koni vs Stock

What's the fitment like? Is it PnP or are modifications required? What kind of a 'much lower price' are you thinking? I was leaning toward the Billies, but could go that way if the price is right. Would like to hear other's perceptions before I become a trial case. What kind of travel do they have?

I'm willing if you're willing to test it in a 460 G-Wagen application. I have actually been thinking of some RAIDs for that truck, and I believe there is a specific application for it (at least, I know a few guys running them on their G-Wagens with great success).

I am a big Koni fan (and Bilstein too). I hate Old Man Emu.

These are a PnP/fully developed shock... they've been selling them in Europe for several years. You will have to PM me for the price, the retail is around $400 per shock (varies), which does sound high for a twin tube, but when one considers the large size/materials, quality, rebound adjustment, rebuildable.... well, they still need to retail for less in the states. I want to break the perception that these BIG twin tubes can't compete with BIG mono tubes... These have .5" more droop travel than the OME, which will be more at the wheel.

I don't have a G-Wagon Raids (yes they make them), but I can probably get them in on the next order. If you think some of the Land Cruiser shocks will work, we might be able to talk. I'd really like to get these in the hands of Cruiser guys.

Why do you hate OME?

OME are Monroe shocks with a different name. Reasons I did not get them. Everything including the warranty to valving is the same as Monroes. Just way overpriced. If you want a nice quality shock go with Bilstien. They test and do hours of R&D and are great shocks.

If any one has a argument... Why do 95% of the comp rigs run LT Bilstiens?

I could care less about OME shocks, I'd rather have factory shocks.

OME's shock rep has been going downhill very fast. Their springs on the other hand are still great.

I love my Bilsteins and was waiting to see what other options are coming in the remote reservoir options (i.e. upcoming Slee). However these Koni's might be a very nice option I like the fact they are longer than the OEM shocks.

If this was still summer time in the PNW and I could actually put these to the test in the mountains I would jump on this in a heartbeat!

What 2000UZJ said. Plus, I've actually blown out two of them. I don't want to rehash old arguments, there are lots of other threads on this topic.

Plus TUV approval and OE for Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, etc...

And of course Konis are OE for a certain exotic car builder from Maranello, Italy...

Well you have to admit, a spring is hard to f___ up.

Sorry i had to point that out:meh:

if you overnight them to me I can take all month testing them :D

We can install them in my garage when you're here! Then you are off to test-ville ;). Get it done.

I need some shock schooling. I have some questions regarding the "adjustability" of these shocks and shocks in general.

These Koni Raids are advertised as adjustable - at first I thought that meant adjust the damping from comfort to firm with a knob on the shock itself. (Those exist, right? Just not for Cruisers). After further reading, it appears that while the firmness is adjustable, it is meant as a one time adjustment or very infrequent adjustment (for example your springs or tbars are weakening and you need to adjust the shocks after x years, or you added or stripped off significant weight and need to adjust shocks). Therefore, it is not a simple knob or switch - instead, you need to remove the shock (at least the bottom mount), push it all the way in and turn clockwise/counterclockwise etc... So it's not something you would do b/f going on the trail and b/f getting back on the road. Is this understanding correct?

Now, in terms of adjustable shocks in general - some look like they're adjustable ride height (like bilstein 5100s), and others are adjustable comfort through a remote switch or even through a knob. However, neither of these types of adjustable shocks are available for 100s, right?

Right now I've got AHC, but down the line when/if I strip it out, I would love to have the same features if I could get it in a more reliable/less expensive package and these suspensions exist just looks like not for the 100s, right?

Yes, that is correct, you cant adjust shocks on a daily basis, it would not be something you do regularly, unless your a suspension guru......or have friends that are.

Ride height adjustment other than AHC, the only option that I know of for the 100 would be airbags in the rear.

I think Rancho has come out with a system that allows you to remotely adjust the shocks on just about any vehicle.....whether it actually will work on a 100 i cant say. I also have no idea about the reliability or cost of the system.

Interestingly I just looked at the Rancho site and both their master catalog (http://www.gorancho.com/assets/catalog/Rancho_Suspension_2010_Master_Catalog_sm.pdf) and their product listing (http://www.rancho.com.au/RanchoProducts.htm) show that the adjustable RS9000XL adjustable shocks are available for 100 series cruisers. However, I think it might be a mistake b/c the years on the master catalog don't match up (it shows LX450, LX470, LX570 but the year goes up to 98). Also every site I checked so far shows it's incompatible with landcruisers 98 and up.

And if it were true, wouldn't people should be jumping on this? Btw, Autoanything has them on sale with a seemingly amazing deal - each shock usually lists at 150 and the upgrade to wireless controller for the shock settings is usually another 250 on top - so 850 normally. Well, Autoanything has an offer now buy 4 at 100 each and get the wireless controller free see here: Rancho RS999207 at AutoAnything

(Followup) http://www.4wd1.com/LandCruiser-IFS.htm this site also has tough dog shocks for the rear that are adjustable with an external knob.

Hmm, I'm gonna sound like some kind of snob (and I'm really not), but again, they're... well... Ranchos. Best for lifting Jeeps and Chevy pickups with lots of chrome... ;)

I have jumped mine a few times with the billies. They handle it well. I have yet to overheat them hauling ass through the woods.

Blew 3 OEM shocks on one trip...bilstiens are fabulous. Hands down

OEM or OME? OEMs are Tokico, which IMHO are fantastic quality shocks, never heard of problems with them.
