I have pulled down one knuckle and cleaned everything up. Now I am a bit confused about how everything goes back together. I have read all of the write ups but I am still a little confused about the order of the reinstallation.

I have listed below the order that I think that they should go back together.

1. Knuckle housing
2. Seal

3. Axle spline

4. Seal with tear drop at bottom to match hole in bottom of spline

5. Backing plate for disc brakes
6. Oil seal

Can any body please confirm that this is correct?

I will also try to put up some more pitures on my blog site.

1. Put the knuckle seals over the knuckle.
2. Put the housing in place. And adjust bearing load for the housing(lower plate and steering arm with shims if necessary)
3. Bolt the knuckleseals in place.
4. Fill the birfield completely with prescribed lubricant (soapbased-lithium grease?)
5. Put birfield in. Fill the knucklehousing with same grease as birfiel untill about 3/4 full.
6. Paperseal
7. Axle stub with backing plate.
8. Wheelbearings and brake disk(adjust bearings!)
9. Caliper.

Thanks Ron R, just need a bit more clarification.

1. Put the knuckle seals over the knuckle.
2. Put the housing in place. And adjust bearing load for the housing (lower plate and steering arm with shims if necessary)
2.a Perform preload test at this point?
3. Bolt the knuckleseals in place.
4. Fill the birfield completely with prescribed lubricant (soapbased-lithium grease?)
5. Put birfield in. Fill the knucklehousing with same grease as birfield until about 3/4 full.
6. Paperseal
7. Axle stub
7.a And then the backing plate
7.b And then the oil seal
8. Wheelbearings and brake disk(adjust bearings!)
9. Calliper.

Some of this I can tell from the other side but just looking for clarification and documenting for myself and others for the future.

Regards,
David.

Ron,

I think that I have read every single write up that there is but none of them give much detail on the order in which everything is put back together.

I was only really confused about the backing plate and the gasket, but I think that there is no gasket between the axle stub and the backing plate. Seems wrong as one of the gaskets has a tear drop that matches the hole in the axle stub.

Thanks
David.

David,
there should be a gasket between axle stub and housing AFAIK (and I'm pretty sure).
If you look into the link I posted above and scroll down the page you will see an exploded view. And there is a gasket shown as well.
The gasket in your picture is to be placed in between axlestub base and backing plate. The 'teardrop' should point downward as to allow moist/dirt to get out behind the 'seal' that portrudes from the backing plate.
From my own experience I know that this opening gets clogged fairly quickly/often. Then dirt collects behind the backing plate.
Every now and then I stir in this 'channel' with a piece of thin wire or the end of a tight-wrap to open it up.
