They tried to occupy the same space at the same time?

So, collective, make sure I’m not screwing this up.

I found this in the midst of a knuckle rebuild that was prompted by leaking oil/grease.

-I have the knuckle centering tool and the necessary shims to get the centering correct.
-I’ll order a new birfield because this one doesn’t move perfectly smoothly anymore.
-I’ll grind out the burr that has been turned up inside the knuckle.

Are there any other likely problems caused by this damage?

Thanks!

So lower cap came loose? Or a trunion bearing died badly enough to let birf drift downward? I'd want to know why damage occurred...

From what I’ve learned, these are not OEM birfs (NTN brand). The measurements I got with the knuckle alignment tool had me shim tighter than what came off of this knuckle so I believe this wasn’t centered right and also is a slightly larger birf which allowed the contact with the inside of the housing.

Looks to me that All the laws of physics were maintained. Took a lot of force to make that nasty little scratch.
Fair statement. They validated a law of physics!

Probably just a bad knuckle job. If you have the alignment tool. You'll be good. I wouldn't spend the $ on on new birfs.
