1995 Toyota Land Cruiser – HZJ75 – Troop Carrier – “Troopy”

This is my 75 Series Toyota Land Cruiser that was imported from Dubai earlier in this year. The Cruiser has a clean TN Title with all the appropriate importation paperwork.

This Troopy is a Right-Hand Drive (RHD) version with the 1HZ Diesel engine (straight 6). It has 174,000 KM (which translates to about 108,118 miles) on the clock. It has the H55F 5-Speed Manual Transmission with Manual Locking Hubs. There are jump seats in the back that can be folded up and out of the way or removed completely for your Camping / Overlanding Build out.

It drives straight and smooth on the highway and will comfortably cruiser at 60-65 mph all day long. It has a front and rear fuel tank for a total of 40 gallons of diesel on board. With an average of 23 miles to the gallon, that puts your range over 900 miles! The gearing in the Troopy is perfect for climbing steep difficult terrain or even pulling the moon out of orbit. These trucks are very capable and willing. There is a reason why they are so desired around the globe – especially the Troop Carriers.

This Cruiser is used and is 27 years old but is in great condition. The previous owners installed new front seats and it has been repainted (still the original Toyota White). There are a few areas where you will see slight rust “bubbling”, but no holes and the frame is practically rust free.

Interesting troopy. Where was the car originally from? I don't doubt you bought it in Dubai, but cars over there are LHD so it must have come from somewhere else.

Great question! I bought it through Dubai but unfortunately I don't know it's original home before that. When I received it, it had Australian stickers on it.
Dubai won't allow you to register a RHD, so it is interesting that it was there...unless they drove it without registering.

I did, yes. They worked great. Otherwise, the steel wheels won't have the clearance. I picked them up from:

I was pleased with their pricing and customer service. Website was not too clear on how many you were purchasing...I ended up ordering (4) which turns out was 4-sets...a total of 8 spacers! Ha! They quickly saw my mistake and called me and straightened me out.

For any potential buyer, I did want to highlight two potential stories of why it ended up sold in Dubai (actually, probably in Sharjah):

- the scrapyard importers found it to be in a decent-enough shape and decided to flip it instead of parting out
- the scrapyard importers found it to be in a decent-enough shape to _____ (throw in a different engine, replace some body panels, replace something) and flip it.

Here's some pics from the scrapyards so you know what sorts of places you're dealing with: 70-series parts in Sharjah scrap yards - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/70-series-parts-in-sharjah-scrap-yards.1240112/ Most of the vehicles there are from Australia, so RHD.

Then, there's the million (50K?)-dollar question - why was it exported out of Australia in the first place? Generally 70-series are in high demand and can be easily resold/traded/converted/etc., and are exported to Sharjah after they are either unable to be registered in Australia or are mechanically problematic. Whatever that might be, I can only speculate. But that would be the logical explanation as to why a RHD vehicle ended up in Dubai (can't register one anywhere in the Middle East), and was sold on to the USA.

Hey, thanks. That's actually good information. I believe I've seen Land Cruiser Haven guys in that area sourcing parts and bringing back containers full for US projects.

I have actually sourced several vehicles out of Dubai and they come via traders / dealers. Some are out of Japan or in this case, probably Australia that utilize the Middle East for "middle ground" to ship anywhere. Unfortunately, I don't know where the truck originated from but I do know it came from an Auto Dealer in Dubai called Al Hamd Motors. They are a middle man dealer that source vehicles from all over and ship all over - both right and left hand drive.

Thankfully this cruiser is not a chopped and pieced together vehicle - the frame numbers and plat numbers all match. If you look closely vin plate you'll see the frame numbers (albeit a touch hard to read...)

Thanks for info though - it looks like that could be a good source for someone if they ever had an accident and needed to replace doors, bumpers, fenders, etc.
