Hi guys,

Recently purchased 2003 LX470 came with OME, but the previous owner gave me King shocks also. He used it once and took it off because they were too stiff for his everyday ride. He said I should get an adjuster that can control the stiffness. I have no clue what he is talking about.

Can anyone advise me on what I should do? Should I put them on or should I sell them? Or use them as decoration on my garage wall?

I would really appreciate some help.

Thanks,

Denali

I have the OME's and like them, I would sell them. It is a fair amount of work to change them [rears] and I do not feel you gain anything worth the effort.

The Kings are a rebuildable and tuneable race style shock ($$$). The OME's are a great all around option but they are disposable and cost << than the Kings. Nothing at all wrong with them but not in the same category. Rebuildable is only good if you appreciate the performance, otherwise it just means you wait while you have them rebuilt when the time comes v just junking and replacing like a conventional shock.

If you don't plan on running hard and fast you'll probably be fine with the OME's and may want to price and sell the Kings. I'd put the kings on and go wild but that's just me...

Yes , they are much stiffer then OME. But I plan to use mine for go fast desert running.

I was just about to order a set of Kings for LC...Do you want to sell yours?

Cash in those Kings buy some sliders... You're welcome.

I doubt you’d get this much interest in your OME shocks- if that tells you anything. Id keep the Kings and try them before you off them. You can do a full shock swap in an afternoon- IPA breaks included.

I have two front shocks. How much are they new?

Just put on some kings with the external adjustable reservoir. It’s a sweet shock.

I've never driven a 100 with Kings but I have with OME Sports and they were stiff as f**k. I can't imagine King being worse unless they are valved wrong for another vehicle or something. I would say the PO has no clue what he is talking about. Post up a picture of the kings. 2.0 or 2.5s?

I hope I am not to late to the party, I would always recommend a rebuildable and revealable shock weather that may be ICON, KING, RADFLO or FOX. I have tried all of them and think they are all great. I especially like KINGS because they are extremely simple to work with (valve shim stack, damping curve adjustments ) when compared to the other shock brands (in my opinion), plus spare parts for kings are widespread in my country. Id defiantly say go for the high end shock.

Here is a video of me messing around my old LC100 with King shocks, yes it is significantly lighter then the LX470, My LC100 was a barebones version manual 4.5 inline 6 (1FZE). But this thing absolutely dominated the desert here, I spent ALLOT of extra cash on my LC200 and it can't even get close, not even close. The ride quality was absolutely outstanding not only because of the KINGs but because the LC100 was a great rig(curb weight, design etc) , I remember drinking my morning coffee while blasting through washboard and whoops on the way back to camp on weekends. Those were the days. Working on getting my LC200 to that level.

Please note of the modifications also:

1. King shocks all around with compression adjusters , extended travel upfront. Valving front 0.15 with double flutter stack for compression and 1.2 straight shims for rebound , rear 0.12 with a single flutter stack for compression and a 0.12 straight stack for rebound.

2. Tough dog torsion bar (30% increase in spring rate). Ride height upfront set at: 2.75 inches higher then stock.

3. Total chaos Uniball upper control arms.

4. King linear rate coil spring in the rear (2 inch lift from stock)

5. Front and rear sway bar delete.

Video (wish I recorded more clips while I had this vehicle, but unfortunately I bent the frame and had to sell it, miss it so much.):

Holy crap. Amazing. Also 1:16 straight up sounds like a pod racer haha.

Tough Dog adjustables from @reevsci. Fantastic shocks, great rides, great off-road.

Iron Man Foam Cell Pro...all the way

The tough dog and iron man shocks may be great, but they are not in the same ballpark as the kings... the kings can be tuned to your liking and they don't get thrown away, they get rebuilt. Plus, OP didn't ask about them
