I was high bidder on the RNM auction earlier today on Bring a Trailer. The seller sent me an offer that is indeed very close to my high bid, which was driven by auction fervor and the need for a replacement for our LX that was totaled last week.

2017 Toyota Land Cruiser URJ200 - https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2017-toyota-land-cruiser-12/

I've had my 2006 for 13 years and bought it out of northern OH. The rust is a big inconvenience at times, but nothing structural. I had thought the same about this (the dealer had the frame cleaned with "soap and water" in the last 7 photos), but then I took a very close look at 221 and it almost looks like the drivers side bushing area has a rust hole in it (certainly a significant amount of rust either way). Am I seeing things? Is a bracket in the way? I know it should be a relatively easy replacement, but it's more the level of decay that's concerning. I have read about the KDSS screws, but I don't plan to add a lift, etc., so may just try the occasional blast with Kroil for a few weeks before I try a turn.

What do you guys think? Decent price at around the final bid? I do have to get back to him by around 10:30 tomorrow, so any help is appreciated!

I would pass on that. There’s much cleaner ones out there. There’s not a ton of rust, but where there is rust, it’s looking pretty gnarly and looking to be actual rot happening.

Patience in finding a non rusty one will lead to much greener pastures.

Plus you need to budget $600-$800 for a new steering wheel with that one :)

If you’re referring to the drivers side track bar mount, I think you’re just seeing shadow/dark spots. Look at different angles in the 190s you can see some rust but no hole.

As far as the truck in general I would pass too. You can find a similar year/mileage so cal truck with no rust and feel a lot better about your purchase.

I'll agree with the other comments and advise to pass on this one. It looks like the linked vehicle is in PA and you're in the DFW area. You will have much better luck shopping local.

I could live with the frame rust, especially if I moved it to DFW where it wouldn't progress. But these two pictures would make me extremely nervous.

Is this rust under the scuff plate?

The frame rust seems not bad at all for the year, and wouldnt bother me much (OH!).... and the low miles on an otherwise clean truck is nice...otherwise seems worth the high-40's to 50. Sheet metal rust is a no-go though.

Living where rust won’t ever take hold, I’d absolutely wait for a rig that doesn’t start with it. Yeah it may not be the end of the world but it makes literally everything you’ll ever do under the rig far more difficult than it needs to be. And there are cancer-free examples out there.

I’d have different advice for someone living in Minnesota.

I'd pass on that as well. I paid 50k locally (mid TN) for a similar truck with zero rust. The rust under the sill plate says the body is much worse than you expect. The places on the rear axle that look better than expected look like they got some sort of coating. The Top of the front KDSS ram looks like it came from a shipwreck.

This. Living in TX, exact same advice I would give to a neighbor.

Also, adding to the above, the question about the oil changes for about 30kmiles absolutely was not answered by that post with a pic of the current oil. I would hate to buy a truck and find out later that it went 30kmiles or so without an oil change.

Just looking at the year and miles, I didn't think the price was too high. However, upon closer examination, to me, the frame rust would be a non-starter. I would not be interested in any vehicle from the "rust belt".

Thanks, guys - I had totally missed the sill plate.

I'm going to pass, but did get some pictures with sill plate removed. There are some bubbles, but it looks way better than I was anticipating. The paint is still intact, so one could presumably just clean the areas up and hit it with a rust preventative since it's under the sill plate.

Dude you live in DFW. SO MANY 200 series out there (I lived there 2 years ago). Get one nearby or more west where there isn't rust at all.

Others have found rust in this spot as well. Seems like if you are stepping on the plate a bunch you can wear out the paint and then rust develops rather easily.

Fairly stupid design that a scuff protector scuffs the paint with wear...

This is a common issue for toyotas in the rust belt. I think it more has to do with salt from the interior getting under the kick plate and then spreads under the door sill protector. If you pull the plastic kick trim I am sure the rust is much worse. Had this same issue on a brand new 2018 Tacoma I had. Never stepped on either area and it was rusting. One of the reasons I sent it down the road after 5 NY winters. Rest of the truck was mint including the woolwaxed frame. Salt sucks.

Yeah fair enough.

Some folks have removed that plastic trim and placed PPF or some other tape there as an extra barrier against salt.

When it comes to cars I am very thankful to live in the South.
