Kick Down / Throttle Cable Restoration? (1 Viewer)

Trying to add some / refresh the protection to the kickdown. Can’t get the 1/2 heat shrink over the adjusting nuts which requires the rubber boot to come off the throttle side. Normally I’d just tear into these things but since this part is unobtanium I thought I’d ask the group. Can the throttle side rubber boot come off without damaging it?

I just went ham on a few different methods with mine when I rewrapped my AC line. I started with tesa tape, then exhaust tape, then high temp harness protector and finished with a high temp Velcro shield. It’s overkill, but oh well.
