Kiboko Adventures: Big Bend National Park and Mexico... briefly (April 2021)
CONTINUED
Getting from the eastern side to western is best done via Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive which is spectacular. IMO the western side is far more picturesque. On the way, we made the 2mi hike into the Burro Mesa Pouroff which is pretty mundane and also hysterically wasp infested which made for a quick pic and out.
We had lunch at the Santa Elena River Access before hiking my personal favorite trail: Santa Elena Canyon. Extremely cool.
Final stop was last night’s camp site at Ocotillo Grove. Not nearly as private as Ernst Basin but painfully beautiful and way easier to access (good bc wife’s patience with off-road was waning).
All in, just a truly amazing place and 8.5hr from home leaves no excuse to not get out there and explore. Hope they get the fire under control soon too!
