I have a 2000 Land Cruiser and my keys are breaking. I had one brake about 6 months ago and now the other one has started to crack.

I was wondering if there is anywhere to order the plastic housing that the key and transponder mount in? Or do I just have to order a new key?

Its a chronic problem. The case sheels are weak, and they ALL break after a while. Replacement shells are cheap, and its a simple matter to have the blades cut to match your original key [keep the original and always use that as the master for cutting] and to transfer the remote module over to the new shell.

Do a search on 'key shell' Last time I bought them I paid around $4 each on eBay. They are every bit as good as the OEM shells, and last just as long.

^^ ok , lol, in time being that doesnt help me . dealer sells blank shells with no toyota mark on it

The ebay one should work fine, but will probably break again.....as even the OEM ones do. So its kinda a short term fix. So you could order one and email eternitykey. :)

I disagree. Having the key cut from the VIN will give better results. A key will wear over time and having a new key cut off of that will get you a new worn key. I have done both and the VIN cut key is much smoother in the cylinders.

Lucky for me I have both key fobs from the 2nd owner of my 00 I just got and they are in good condition yet.. I already told my wife be gentle with twisting in the ignition haha. My old GS400 key fobs were decidedly more robust, curse you Toyota!

This x 2. Had my new OEM cut by VIN and it was noticeable different than the ones I got with the truck. The fresh cut works great. The only thing I did to make me feel better was to have them test the cut on a $4 dollar all metal key first. Since the OEM remote key is a little more $$$ LOL

Yes, lucky you. :p

I've had issues with the Ebay cheap keys. The remote doesn't fit inside well. I've also noticed that the Ebay key only lasts a few months before it snaps. Try to find OEM blank on ebay. It'll cost a little more but will last longer and the remote fits better inside.

I just got the OEM from beno. I wanna say $125 - $150 for the remote key. I have had it since 2011 and it hasn't broke yet. So might be better than eBay keys in the long run, plus it came with the remote part too.

You can get the OEM housing with blank key, back cover and screw from CDAN and others, and transfer the chip from the old to the new.

Figures, I needed the whole thing though. When I picked mine up it came with two valet looking keys....no remotes.

I have a prototype eternity Toyota key and it is awesome solves all the problems.

Can you post up some front and back pics?
