Sounds kinda grouchy today.

Yes he is. Called me "cryptic" in another thread after stating I was going to Ouray 4 different times. LOL.

The field dressing splints are awesome.

Will the new springs be heavier duty, or same load style with more bend for the lift?

Do you think the failure was from use outside of stated ability, age of spring, or it just happened?

The trailer is fairly light, around 1700lbs (wet) so I don't think I over exerted the springs but not an expert on leaf springs by any stretch. I think the age had something to do with it.

New springs are 1,000 lbs/each and with an additional 1" arch so the lifting blocks can be eliminated. I opted to go with the same exact springs due to the way they're built and their intended purpose. No off the shelf pre-made American springs came close to the configuration and length of this spring. The main leaf is supported by a second spring running the entire length. I guess this helps the main leaf from fatiguing and eventually breaking.

Interestingly enough, there are no shocks on this trailer and maybe that promoted spring failure? Kamparoo is now adding shocks so I may do that as well. Unfortunately, adding shocks tend to open up Pandora's box. Shock valving is critical for such a light weight trailer and Monroe has a decent chart that helps you coming up with shocks.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Shocks definitely help with metal fatigue. I wonder why they're adding shocks now? Maybe yours is not an isolated incident...

Steve,

Did you ever sell your Jayco Baja?

Yep, we sold it last year and bought a hardside camper we could leave in the mountains.

Just got back from the Conejos Valley. We ended up with a flat tire beyond repair. The tire was a Wrangler AT and only one year old. This was on my buddies GMC half ton pick-up. The fishing was awesome by the way.
