the Xl tent cot in action. I like to sleep comfortably so in addition to the cot design and built in pad, I put an additional pad under the bag. I also notice I sink a little due to the cot design and the distance to the ceiling os great and the width if ample. I dont know if I would like the standard size.

It sets up pretty quick and on this trip I set up the rainfly for the first time. Although it threatened earlier in the day it never rained overnight.

One of the fellow campers goes with his hammock while everyone else has built platforms to sleep in thier vehicles.

I used mine over the weekend as well. Did get rained on but stayed dry. Coleman makes a tent fan that hangs by magnet. Magnet goes on outside fan on inside. Perfect for moving some air. Mine is the flat top original version. Only concern i had was water standing on the top.

The fan is an excellent idea. There was no moisture inside the cot tent but the underside of the rain fly did have quite a bit.

Plus the drone of the fan may keep the Elk bugeling and the coyote's yipping from waking me throughout the night!

I dont dissagree with that ~ living in AZ, its not much of an issue. I can deal with the occasional rain or sprinkle rather easily.

I store my shoes directly under the cot anyway which would keep them dry; in a tupperware container if standing water is possible. Worst case, I could also rig up a rainfly from the trucks roofrack over the cot to help keep a dry area to work in if need be.
Never had a problem with rain (I have the oversized) if camping space is tight or on mushy or uneven ground I set the camp tent in the bed of my truck it isomer stable and anywhere I can park I can camp

I have used one of these for years. They are excellent for what they are. It's a cheap way to stay off the ground, and the cot is very comfortable, at least for me at 175 pounds. They best part is you are off the ground so you don't get wet and with the right pad, you don't get cold either. Mine has been impressively water tight. I've slept out in some fairly heavy rain and wind. If the wind really comes up, I've tied it to my truck so it doesn't blow away with me in it.

So what's not to like? Well, it's bulky. Really bulky, heavy and awkward. The condensation issue is real. Unless it's very open and dry, you will have condensation by morning. Enough that you need to dry your sleeping bag in the sun a bit. It is hard to change in it, so plan on "deck changing". It is small inside, almost coffin like.

With that said, it's a great thing to have. On rocky ground, or on rocky trail where you move every day, it's perfect.

The thing that has kept me away from the Tent cot is the bulk. I've camped with Andy and others who use them and envied the ease of set up /breakdown. Now that my spare is properly stored outside the rig I'm reconsidering the tent cot as an option.

I love the variation of all the different sleeping platforms: tent cot, trailer, in truck, hammock, top of truck. 57 varieties! :hillbilly:

I bought one in 2009 and still have it. Used it for a month straight in 2009, and on many camping trips after. I fell on it once after drinking a bit too much and ripped the top. Just had it fixed by a seamstress and still works great. Definitely not optimized for space savings or weight! It takes a lot of room but is great for quick wheeling/camping trips on the weekends. I have had that condensation issue as well.
