Too far from the shoreline, in beautiful WTF Flori
Well, I've been "talking" about doing something with this thing for ages.
Now it's time to put up or shut up!

I just sent the old girl off on a flatbed to a buddy's shop where we'll start.
Right now, just going to take care of some minor maintenance issues, try and find the electrical gremlins, "enhance" the braking a bit, and get a base line on the engine.

From there, it'll go to another buddy's shop where we'll start the rust repair and paint & body work.

In between times, we'll cover the ugly with primer and me and the granddaughter are going to start our summer Florida exploration trek:clap:

I'll start do a build thread later.
for now, I'm pretty stoked about just getting the old gal back on the road!:bounce2::bounce2:

That's all......

:Dsubscribed. i hope to see you on the trails when you get her going. if you ever get down south the state forest here has great trails.

Thanks.
I get down that way fairly often. My dad was born & Raised on Captiva and I have a satellite branch down in Ft. Myers.

Once we get her rolling safe and reliable, the granddaughter and I, and whoever else wants to climb in, are going to be headed back to Captiva:bounce:

I'd love to explore some of those trails down there, thanks.

sounds like a great plan! cool you and your grand daughter get to share the experience !! put her to work sanding or something she will remember that as part of the experience !! i know my daughters remember those times.....

Awesome look forward to it as well. Gonna put the vortec in it now or you saving that for later;)

I stopped by the shop yesterday afternoon.
My buddy and his wife are foster parents, and have adopted a couple of the children over the years.
We were talking about the granddaughter and he said "bring her over!"
We'll have her "help fix it":D
I know she'll get a kick out of that:cool:

I look forward to your build. great plan too.
Thank you.

Still up in the air on the final choice of engine. Heck, I just got past the color choice:lol:
Going to stick with RED:cool:

If I go V8, I've pretty much decided to go LS something out of a Camaro or Corvette.
Lightweight, reliable, easy to get parts anywhere, will last 150-200k without touching it if you maintain it. Even then, not an arm and a leg to rebuild.

If I decide on a diesel, it'll most likely be one out of the Isuzu NPR trucks unless I can get a screaming deal on a Toyota diesel.
Cummins are great, but I think probably too noisy for the wife and granddaughter for a long ride, and heavy.

Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

The biggest thing for me with a diesel, is the WFO ability and fuel mileage. We're going to be doing a lot of traveling, both on and off road.
The economy would be great and I need the reliability.

All in time with input from the folks here:cool:

Progress report.

Spoke with the mechanic that has been checking out the cruiser.
Here's his report.

No spark, except for a momentary spark when the key is turned to the off position.
He's had a lot going on with his kids graduations and such, and hasn't had much time to look at it.

Being an FJ62, anyone else experience such issues?
Told him I'd look into it here with "the pro's" over the weekend.

...and it sits.....

TIA

a diesel swap would cure that no spark issue. ;p

:lol:Yes it would, and that's not totally out of the question.
Unfortunately, due to some bad decision making on my daughters behalf, my timeline to get this back on the road and start doing the "exploring" I promised my granddaughter, may have been severely pushed up:mad:

Right now, I have to go the quickest and cheapest route to getting her back on the road safely.

Once things settle down, I will revisit the diesel v. V8 options.

Anyone have any ideas on the problem area mentioned?
Computer issue maybe?

I don't know that much about the 62's ignitions system, but since nobody else is responding, I'll throw in a couple of guesses. Either a faulty pickup module in the distributor or an ignitor.
Don't know if 60 and 62 ignition parts interchange, but I have some 60 ignition parts (ignitor and distributor) if you'd like to try them out.

Great to hear you're getting the truck back on the road!

Thanks Steve.
My friends had a lot going on this last week or so with his kids graduation, family and friends coming over to celebrate, so I've left him alone. The shops been closed more than open this week.

Beginning Monday however, we're going to dive head first into this mess and start trying to figure it out!

I may hit you up on those parts even if only to see if that's the problem.
Have a great weekend and I'll talk with you later.

Thanks,
Gordon
