i was very skeptical when i saw the previews, but it turned out pretty good. the oompa loompas are pretty sweet, especially when combined with the mutant ninja squirrels. other than the fact that johnny depp looks like a child molester, it turned out quite good.

How did it compare to the original?

I haven't seen the new one yet, but based on the previews it looks as though it'll be closer to the book rather than to the Willy Wonka movie. The WW movie was quite a departure from the book - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Roald Dahl's books tend to be a bit on the dark side.

I think Johnny depp modeled him a bit after Michael Jackson

Saw it yesterday and thought the very same thing.

I still liked the original way better but the kids liked it and for some reason the audience applauded at the end (wasn't that good). Seemed like a condensed version of the original. But then again, I'm no Tim Burton fan....

I thought it was pretty good, but when are these hollywood types gonna come up with an orginal idea???

When Johnny depp said " I have invited 5 children to tour my factory this year" the only thing I could think about was Micheal Jackson.

Over all it was pretty good.

Not reading the book I based it on the old movie and I didn't like how it turned out. Up until the kid got shrunk by the tv it was ok but after that I hated it. I thought the oompa loompas should have stayed more with the original songs.

Depp is normally a great actor, I have to admit that. But I have no desire to pay money to see this movie! The previews are enough to tell me he's to gay in it for me.

I'm with you on Depp. Gene Wilder's Wonka was eccentric and kooky. Depp's seems to be kinda creepy and weird - and not in a good way.

Saw it yesterday with kids.....Depp showed his true personality in this movie, I kinda like him in Pirates, but he's still a huge anti-american. The ompa-loompa kinda cool but reminded me of an old Devo video. The kid that played Charlie, and grandpa character were very good. I wasn't disappointed but Depp sure did a good Michael Jackson impression.

i tought it it was sort a strange take on the original. i don't think i'd let a kid unattendender with Depp after that. they should have just added a chimp and called it "charlie in never neverland".
