Hi everyone. New to the forum. Just picked up my first fj40. I’m sure I will be worrying you all with questions. I plan on doing a driving restoration. I will kick around in it while I’m doing the work. I think the first thing I’m going to replace is the rear sill. Can’t wait to dig into it. Haha.

Rear sill? Mine’s still waiting…35 years later!😛

I started with the steering and the brakes. That’s what I always recommend to my customers as well. ;)

Congrats. I’m new to the FJ40 scene too and got lots to learn.

Can you take more pictures of that roll bar? I’m looking to get one for my long jump seats and that is the type I’m looking for.

Congrats!! You'll love every minute of it.

Welcome. Looks like a solid base to start with.
Enjoy the ride

Have children at home? Swearing is common and quite expected as you begin one repair and discover three other things along the way that desperately need attention. Then there are the wonders of what a PO thought was a proper repair🙄. Fun, fun, fun as The Beach Boys say! Welcome to the madness…..

Except for the times where you bust your knuckles, oogle at parts, and have to walk away from a problem, but then when you're done, you'll still love it!
Oh yes viewing “ parts porn” is very common during the process as well.

Looking at the 8274, gobi rack, 4+ bumpers, lift, and by the time you are done, you are looking at 15000 dollars in mods heheh

All nice I have the 4Plus bumpers, seriously overbuilt and rugged. I hear mixed things about the Gobi rack though, but it sure does look cool. And the 8274 winch is timeless👍

I sure can. I’m out of town for work. I will get you some pics this weekend.

My own philosophy starting four decades ago is a corollary of the boy scout motto [hope for the best, prepare for the worst]

Plan on things taking three times as long as you think they should
Plan for 1/3 of what you try to disassemble breaking from rust before it comes apart
Plan on drawing blood.

I only get mad when I forget the plan! :censor:
And I rememberer to thank the cruiser gods when none of the 'plans' come to pass.:)
