We're probably going up there Saturday afternoon/evening through Monday. Will anyone else still be there? :)

We'll show up Sat late afternoon sometime and depart on Sunday.

we will be there through Sunday, maybe leave Monday. some others I know are planning to come up for the day on Sunday.

What radio freq are we using now? I finished installing my new ft8800 yesterday.

I will try to relay our coordinates on the repeater mega link. BUT, I just got the antenna for my new truck and realized this evening that I don't have power to the radio.

my old truck did. trying to do too many things at once here.

I have the handheld ham, but the antenna is broken off. I'll have to try and get out with the handheld by holding the antenna on. not ideal, the best I have right now.

go by the coordinates I posted early in this thread and at minimum, worst case scenario, if we aren't at that spot, I'll meet there with Ali when he comes up and he can radio out the new spot coordinates.

disregard. ham wise, I'm dead in the water. maybe I can get a power cord connection before heading out Thurs morning. I'll let you all know.

this is a good early test for my new truck with the camper though. scratched the roof hard finding that the newer trucks cabs are taller, which doesn't match with a sagging overhead area. my measurements were good showing that it SHOULD fit. didn't count on the sag factor. it's on and functioning for now with a little engineering. time to start packing.

Gage,

We'll be heading up there sat late afternoon so keep an ear out on the Megalink and HDC_1 (146.460). Hopefully Shawn will keep an ear out on Simplex so that I can find him.

I have another thread going to try and get a connector for my mobile radio. if I can get one, I will be able to try getting out on the mega link thursday afternoon/evening. I should be able to hit Sandia or Mt Taylor. I have the sheet of the repeaters from the guy at Specialty Communications.

If I can't get a way to power the mobile radio, I will have no radio. the HT I have is useless.

Shawn,

The Cuba and Chama repeaters have worked well for me in the Jemez.

good to know! thanks.

What's Shawn's call sign?

KF5CRJ

if you can monitor from about 3pm on, that would be great. or if you are working till later, I can try around 6pm.

we are almost ready to head out. I have a power cord in hand( thanks Pappy), so I will txmit the coordinates this evening. 5-6pm. if anyone is listening earlier, I may try sooner if we drive right to the spot above and all is good.

Have you checked with the Ranger Station? I heard third hand that overnight camping was band...

According to the SFNF website, camping has not been restricted. But the use of fires and stoves and the allowable travel off-road has been severely restricted. Stage II restrictions are in effect as of June 10.

SFNF Stage II Fire Restrictions

Summary:
-No fires allowed.
-No petroleum-burning stoves/grills/lanterns allowed except in campgrounds or wilderness areas.
-Vehicles must be parked within 10 feet of a roadway and only on areas devoid of vegetation.

Has anyone been in touch with Shawn? I'll take the HT to work today and will keep an ear out but the chances are slim that I'll hear him calling!

I tried to make contacts throughout the day to no avail.

so i just talked to Ali on the megalink from my garage in the EM (gotta love ham and megalink). he is nearing fenton lake with no contact with shawn yet. we set up 7pm tonight to transmit and i'll post up the coords where he ends up at.

just talked to Ali. they are located at:

35.96N
106.73W

he says the intersections of 117 and 126 as well as the turn off on 117 to the site are marked with HDC paper plates thanks to Shawn.

NOTE these are not the same as posted before.

I think the fam and I will prolly head up for the afternoon tomorrow morning...

we are back. did everyone get back safe? everyone left in different groups.
we had a great time. thanks to all who showed up! the sunday afternoon get together was great. the kids had a blast too. we have lots of pics that Jill is sorting through.
it still amazes me how little distance you have to get away from 126 on a slightly rough road and you see nobody but your own group. we heard 1 vehicle the whole weekend that wasn't with HDC.

I tried to get out on the mega link at 6pm-7pm. Gage says he heard me, but couldn't answer. so I left the above said signs for all to follow. on the way in on 117, we spotted 2 cinnamon black bears. both full grown and high tailing it full tilt for the trees when we came into view. lots of elk sign and tracks around the camp area on all sides. we did see 1 deer on the way out on 117, Gage will be happy to hear that.

thanks to all again for a great Father's Day camping trip!
