July Meeting and Annual Picnic

I plan to be there:bounce:

Family and I will be there, I think.

I did the shopping trip tonight and bought all the items I'm bringing for the picnic. This will still be a potluck format like our normal monthly meetings but I will be providing some basics:

Brats, Sausages, Hot Dogs, Potato Salad, Chips, Drinks

So please plan to bring additional meat to grill, other main dishes, side dishes or dessert.

I bought a bunch of bottled water as well as a few 2L of soda. If you'd like to drink something besides that, please bring what you'd like.

I picked up the keys at lunch today. The Locust site is in the SW part of the Oak Area site so hang a left when you get into the picnic area. There are supposedly signs to the different areas to follow.

I was also told by the person at the FS office that all fire restrictions were lifted this morning. So I'm going to buy some charcoal and plan to use one of their grills. I confirmed this information on their website - Restrictions Lifted

Greengo - do you mind still bringing your grill as a backup or for extra grill space if we need it?

We will be attending. Will bring some home made potato salad and try to get a dessert. Anyone from the westside going? I will be driving my 40 up. Would be cool if anyone wanted to caravan.

I'll caravan with you but my Hyundai won't contribute much to a caravan of Land Cruisers. 30+ mpg almost always wins out over my 12 mpg Cruiser.

I think I am going. The :princess: is out of town. Is there a fire pit? I'll bring wood if I get my trailer back up in time...

Ali - I called the ranger district and gave them your name as the person who would be picking up the key to the gate for the site. You'll need to take $10 with you as a deposit for the key.

Sorry Marc, we were camping at CO and got into town after 5 pm yesterday. Had a mishap with the trailer so ended up taking up more time than it should've been.

We'll bring a Quinoa salad.

It may rain tomorrow so prepare the kids accordingly!

Can someone bring a boombox that can accept an aux input?

Should the grilling begin around 2pm just so everyone knows when to show up?

There's probably a fire pit and I'm expecting there to be a wood/charcoal grill. The FS and reservations sites do a terrible job of telling you what's at the site, other than occupant capacity.

I purchased 12 brats, 6 Cheddarwurst and 8 hot dogs.

My hope was that other's might bring more sausages, burgers or chicken to grill. Is anyone else planning to bring more meat or a main item (chicken, pizza, enchiladas, etc)?

Do I need to buy more meat? I could buy a package of frozen hamburger patties if someone is willing to bring buns, lettuce, onions, cheese, etc.

I've spent $40 so far after buying meat, buns, potato salad, chips condiments, drinks, etc. I haven't bought any charcoal yet either. I just don't want to end up with 2X the meat we really need. My count right now is about 25 people if all the maybes come.

we will bring some meat and a side dish, both of which are yet to be determined.

Went for a joy ride in my 40 today out to Oakflats picnic area for a look around.
There is not a fire pit on site and the charcoal grills are marked with red ribbons, although the sign at the ranger station states the fire restrictions have been lifted, we should still plan on the gas grill backup.

Bring a real big bag of charcoal for these bad boys. they are about 3.5' long and 3' wide

It's going to be hot there tomorrow anyway, and since we're done at 5:00 there's really no reason for a fire beyond the grills. Of course that's just me - I could be wrong...

I can pick up some charcoal and buns on my way out. Lettuce and cheese etc,.., not a problem too (onions, not my taste). Someone goning to take a knife set to cut up tomatoes?

I'll bring the watermelon and cutting board.

I just got word that the Fire engine will be showing up around 2pm for the kids.

So i assume you will have a knife too?

I just might wash my 80 to help.....Make sure you go topless (the 40, not you!)

Knife, yes. A biggin' for the melon, and a little knife for yer tomatoes.

As a far as topless ... oh, never mind.
