What do you "upvalley" folks think? I need to get out of the heat again and Tiff has plans during the weekend. Crusin Coffee is scheduled for Saturday in July but we could do either day. I'm thinking a "prerun" up Schofield Pass is in order and maybe some exploring other places in the area with a local.

Who's in?
What day work's best for you?

we have commitements every weekend in July so I'm out for wheeling :frown:. I do know Xfer trail is completely open. Lead King Basin is already dusty. According to bushducks and a week ago the snow bridge was still a problem on Schoefield.

Reservoir park south of Silt is a nice little reservoir and is chocked full of fish. While not a super hard wheeling route its enough to keep the RAV4 type SUV away...and the scenary is really nice.

Also if there are people interested, I can bring up the Trasharoos for up-valley members.

Damn, I am heading up to Silverton that weekend or I would be all over it. If that plan falls through I am in, otherwise we'll see you the following weekend.

Where's 'RanchHand'? This is his backyard....hello?....Ranchhand?......you there?....knock,knock....

Lost Trail Road and Lead King Basin are appealing to me, the snow plug on Schofield may very well be gone in 2 weeks with this heat.

From Bush Ducks on the 21st. "Traveled to Marble from Crested Butte and back on 6/21/12. Open for Utv's and Atv's. The snow bridge is still tough to cross. Probably another couple of weeks to melt."

I'd be ready for a trip to high country about anytime, especially after last weekend. Camp Hale was on the calendar mid-July and I will be heading to the FJ Summit on the 15th so that limits my options.

Great, that makes 2 of us! Where are the other up-valley folks, or down valley folks for that matter. Alpendubber? Crash? Ranch Hand?
I'll send an email out tomorrow to the group for more input.

If I have a free afternoon I'll try to cruise up there on the bike and scope out the situation on Schofield. It's been extremely busy at work so I can't make any promises. But I am craving some Brick Oven Pizzeria and a beer so I'll see what I can do.

Sweet. I look foreword to hearing about it. Brick Oven Pizzeria sounds great. Something new. I'm in for Saturday for the run, others may want to spend the night in the area too. Who knows. I may be in to an overnighter by the time we get there.

Jon,

I'm on call that weekend. I plan on attending the GTG above Ruedi though. When your passing through gwood I'll pay you for the Trasharoo.

Hey guys, Schofield Pass is open! Mary and I are sitting at Brick Oven Pizza enjoying a beer and some pie right now.

Awesome!!!!!!! Can't wait to see it!

New Obstable on Schofield

FYI - There is a small rock slide across the trail maybe 800 meters past the last of the steps at the Punchbowl. We crossed it but it is off-camber and there was some movement as we went across. Not trying to scare anyone off but if anyone has done Schofield in the past and found it to be at the outer limits of their comfort zone be aware that this is a more challenging trail than it was last year.

If you guys are interested in doing a little trail maintenance during your run it wouldn't take too long to clean up with a couple tow straps and pry-bars.

^ Thanks for that beta Ryan. You know I don't like off camber and I wouldn't mind spending some time making the trail safer if that's what's necessary. Not knowing the trail, I look forwards to seeing what the area you speak of looks like. Did you happen to get a pic?

Looking forward to seeing you there Doug.

Jonathan, unfortunately I did not have the presence of mind to take a photo. I was too focused on getting across and it didn't even occur to me until we were a mile or so down the trail. I fully agree with you on the off-camber, especially on a narrow shelf road. :D

I'm going too and probably will be camp too. Nothing wrong with a little trail maintenance as our "pay back".

Any thoughts on where we might camp? I plan to head up towards C'dale sometime Friday and camp nearby then camp with the club Saturday and probably camp Sunday night too. It would be great if I could camp all three nights in the same place. Just got a new tent and anxious to try it out, but will sleep in it tonight in the backyard as a trial.

Somewhere up on Schofield pass I guess, depends on whats available. I also heard that the forrest service is requiring that you carry extra 5 gal. of water dedicated to use for fire suppression if needed.

Do we have a head count on who's going? best I can tell it's just Ace, Jonathan and me so far any one else? Also I would rather not drive to Carbondale just to turn around and head back to Marble, I could meet up with every one else in Marble at 10:30 ish either at the restaraunt in town or at the little lake on the east side of Marble, that would save me about 50 miles/3 gal. of gas.
