Hey there folks, thinking of building a twin jerry can holder that would attach to the spare tire assembly on my BJ74. I was planning on something that would use both the tire and the cans… the question is; what are peoples thoughts on adding an extra ~90lbs of load to the spare tire assembly? Good idea? Bad idea?

That kind of weight hanging off the back is a bad idea if you ask me.Especially if you are going to stay with the standard suspension...springs dampers etc.

If its for cosmetic reasons then its personal choice.

personally my doors alredy such so more weight is not going to happen. i am going to hold out and make a custome rear bumper with duel swingouts kinda like the kaymar bumper for the FJ. no added weight on the doors, modular system that can be taken off if needed. just m2c

The weight of the tire alone is straining the hinges to the maximum.

Thats actually not such a bad idea... im thinking about going that rout, then again it could also use a new bumper with a Pintle hook and an electric winch :) so maybe why not build a swing out system while were at it!
