I am completely in agreement with the fact that going through Cuba is better from Albuquerque; except there are some that may be coming from SR 4 (including me). Therefore I would ask that maybe we could meet at the intersection of FR 126 and FR 103 here:

Which is at about milepost 13.5 of SR 126. That would be around 11:00 am...

Oops - That would be SR (State Road) 126 and FR (Fire Road) 103...

This is true when the weather is good but not so much when it's snowing. Going through the Jemez gives more opportunity to choose an alternate trail if the conditions require.

also considering i trailer my rig, i kinda need to come out the way i go in. i like Greg's idea of being able to change routes quickly too. there's my 2.

Jim, the wife doesn't want to come along? mine should be there.

I'll plan on 9:00 AM at the North Portal. Dress warm!

Sorry - change of plans! It looks like I won't be able to make it after all, but I am planning on the Super Bowl Sunday Snow Run.

We only got about an inch of snow here in the mountains overnight, and it seemed like it was clearing up. However, we're in full blizzard mode right now. I think the real brunt of the storm just hadn't hit us yet this morning. I will be out on the tractor tomorrow clearing our road, in preparation for the next storm that's supposed to hit on Monday.

So I'll get a mini snow run, just on the Kubota instead of the Toyota!

Is the north portal San Felipe?

Graham

The "north portal" is the gas station next to Wendy's at the SE corner of US 550 and SR 528. Take Exit 242 off I-25 (the northern Bernalillo exit - US 550) and go west about 2 miles.

Graham,
What we refer to as "The North Portal" is the gas station/convenience store on the SE corner of Hwy 528 and Hwy 550 in Bernalillo. Take I25 Northbound to the Hwy 550 exit in Bernalillo. Go West on 550 ~2 miles. You will go past the Rio Grande to Hwy 528. It is just past the Santa Ana Star casino and it is a major intersection. Turn left (South) onto 528 and the gas station will be on your left (West side of 528.) I think it is a Conoco gas station but the brand has changed over the years.

Have Fun!

so, we got me, Greg, Jon, and Graham. anyone else? Steve? Jim?

are the 4 going to be at the portal? or anyone coming from the north? just so we aren't waiting here for someone who is meeting us farther north.

Thanks for the directions, I'll be at the portal by 9. See you all tomorrow.

Graham

I'm at 75% to go. Will know in the morning.

Actually, I think they pretty much called off Monday's storm though.

anybody planning to bring a chain saw?

I'll try to make it tomorrow!

Snow Run

Mind if I tag along with you all on the run? Steve H. said sometimes you let jeeps go with. The weather what it is, I figure it's safer to go with a group this weekend.

It's a free country...

Seriously, just come prepared for cold weather and maybe a lot of time getting rigs unstuck.
