So we came up w/ two ideas for this run...

1) Barney Riley.
This was discussed as an over nighter and wanted to present this as such to gauge interest and see who would be down for mid winter camp.
It was discussed going in through the 395 access, but none at the meeting knew HOW to get in from that side.

So post up if you'd be interested in camping on this.

2) as an alternative/ back up run, we would do eldorado canyon as a day run.

Of course, both of these runs will be dependent on the temperament of the Sierra weather.

So let's get some discussion going on this!!!

Personally, I think it'd be NOVEL to camp for the night and take advantage of the mild winter temps we've had, if it holds up.

I kind of know where the 395 access is, we came through from Monitor pass one day last fall and I saw the road. I don't know about camping, I a pussey when it comes to cold weather.

Brrrrrr.

It's not the day time or the evening that is too bad, it's the getting up in the morning, getting dressed, making breakfast, packing up when it's that cold. Darcie and I did a little overnighter on New Years, it was 20 degrees when we got up. I fired up the little catalytic heater I have and it struggled at that temperature.

Was 15 degrees at my house this morning...

I was wondering where you've been!!

That sucks!!!

But you have to understand, I have spent enough time camping in cold weather, between my years in the Army and various other trips, I have done my share. We were in Saline Valley a couple of New Years ago and we got up in the morning, scrambled up some eggs and poured them into a hot pan and the top of the eggs flash froze. It was cold brother.

Those are the mornings when the only thing that gets me out of my sleeping bag is the eminent explosion of my bladder.

Sooooo... The camp run I'm guessing is out! :) lol!

Yes, but you have a HOUSE on your rig!!! :)
Besides... You guys would have the warmth of the smiles and fellowship of the bbcnn crew to take away the chill. :)

So.... Is anyone in for a run??
Let's get some banter on this!!!

I'd be up for trying to find our way to BR from 395, that's a good run for the 60 or the 100.

I will be on the day run and possibly camp if this weather holds. Had my fill of snow camping tho. lets find the 395 entrance. I think it is down by the hatchery in G.ville.:flamingo:

I know where the road takes off from 395, it's just before you get to Topaz. There is actually a sign marking Leviathan Mine Road. It just gets kind of squirrely when you get back on all the Forest Service roads though.

Okay, so it's barney Riley on the 28th of Jan.
Meet time 9 am at the am/pm????

FYI and FWIW Alvaro and a few went in to Barney Riley from the east side about this time last winter...but I thought they went in on China Springs Road.

I've got a guide book that discribes the way to BR from 395, the trick will be the navigation. Topos and GPS will be needed.

So you will have to wheel bootless for awhile--unless you figure it out again--you always seem to.

So everyone still on for Barney Riley? I'm in. What time and where do we meet? I think the way in off of 395 will be a no brainer. I mean don't we just keep going west south west to get to the river and then backtrack on roads we are familiar with?

Or are we doing eldorado due to the snow? I'm good with either
