Hi everyone, I recently acquired a 1993 Land Cruiser HDJ80. This will be where I document the journey of baselining and modifying what the family and I have named The Jabberwocky. I am new to Land Cruiisers, but not to toyota. I have been in the 4runner family since I could drive, and i have owned the following years 4Runners: 1958, 1989, 1992, 1997, 2006, and 2020. We outgrew the 4Runner lifestyle in 2020 when our twins were born, and knew we could never go back once our daughter was born this past summer. The Land Cruiser was a perfect fit with the back seat being big enough for 3 car seats, and still being a vehicle I have to turn around and look at every time I walk away from it.
The Jabberwocky seems to have been very well maintained, with 3 owners (the most recent only owning it for 6 months). I am currently stationed in Germany and plan to bring it back to the US when i’m done over here. Below are the specs as of the day I bought it:
1993 Toyota Landcruiser GX
1HD-T
5-speed H151f
Triple locked
548,000 KM
A/C
Sunroof
all LED interior and headlights
Old Man Emu lift
unknown brand front seat swap
Unknown brand intercooler
Recent frame coating (professionally done)
Cooling system refresh (flush, new aluminum radiator, new thermostat, new hoses)
all fluids flushed and changed
new glow plugs
new fuel injectors
new clutch
Included aftermarket number with Warn winch
Current problems:
- Oil gauge is in-op
- Clunk when accelerating or decelerating (maybe bushings or motor/tranny mounts)
Slow windows (I know it’s a common problem, going to try and come up with a fix)
- Rear locker does not read engaged (does engage, just doesn’t show on dash)
- stereo is wired into b+ so it does not switch off with ignition
Baseline to-do:
remove seat covers
remove TVSS
replace all suspension bushings
inspect motor/tranny mounts
investigate BEB (pan has been off for sure, going to remove pan and inspect next oil change)
remove janky electrical work and re-do
