Ok so I go into the license branch this afternoon to get plates for all three vehicles and renew my drivers license. Wifes '01 Aztek as expected 114.00, my '91 80 series 59.00. Now the big shocker my '76 40 series 65.00. WTF I'm thinking and almost said out loud, but managed to clean it up somewhat. So I managed to ask why a 1976 cost more to get plates on than a '91, response, the book puts it at a catagory 14 meaning that new it cost 25,000 to 30 or 35,000, (can't remember that last figure for sure) how can this be.

I want to know for sure what a cruiser cost new in 1976, both 55 and 40 series. Yes I tried that argument. I think every 40 owner in IN is getting the shaft. If they did cost that much then I shall rest my case but if not I want to take proof to the BMV so I don't have to pay so much in the future.

    Any help would be appriciated.

Drives nice almost sporty feeling, plenty of room, and tons of cool options that I wish we had a couple of. I think we are getting rid of it real soon though, it just passed a 100,000 miles and I think I have the wife talked into either a 4 runner or a hundred series.

More finds, http://www.nadaguides.com in the classic car value section has MSRP's for the FJ40 Hard Top listed at $5543 and the FJ55 at $6483. They list them as 2 door hard top and 4 door station wagon. Hope this helps.

Well according to this site $5,543, but I doubt that'd convince a "worker" at the dmv...

You might try searching in 40s tech for "window sticker" I know some have been posted there. Here's one for a 78.

    I have the original window sticker for my '71 FJ40 - $3368.95.

Let me know if mailing you a photocopy would help.

Thank you gentlemen very much I will find out what I need to do to get this info effective in the BMV system, someone obviously screwed up.

Hell my guess of 13 -15,000 was way high, I guess I was giving our bad ass trucks to much ego.
