Sh*t....I gotta stop perusing European "for sale" ads. I keep finding things of interest. The seller identifies this one as an "HDJ73", which is nonsense (there never was such a thing made by Toyota), but it pretty much has to be an HZJ73. Anyway, front and rear e-lockers, factory air conditioning, presumably 1HZ diesel motor, body looks clean. 1993 model, so legal to import now. Not cheap at 17,900 Euro, but the dollar is strong right now, so not bad either.

Find it here:

Short answer: money and patience

Longer answer: I find it easiest with some help on both ends; someone in Europe to inspect the car, handle the purchase transaction, and arrange for it to get to the port and shipped, plus a Customs broker in the US to clear it through US Customs once it arrives here. Both kinds of help are readily available. You could handle it all yourself, if you want to save some money, assuming you have the necessary language skills for a foreign transaction. I don't, so I use help.

There's also paperwork to be completed, most importantly the EPA and NHTSA forms, but there's more (of course). There are funds to be sent--to the seller, to the shipping line, to the Customs Broker, and to your helper in Europe. The longshoreman at some US ports require payment (I paid them at Newark, IIRC), and you'll need an escort to go onto port property, and they need to be paid also. There's probably more I'm forgetting.

"All in" you're probably looking at something like $5,000 on top of the sales price, depending on many factors--could be less, could be more--that's just a ballpark figure. Assume it could be less if the car is closer to the port in Europe (less intra-Europe transport costs), or more if it's further away. From finding the car to having it in your driveway maybe takes a couple months.

If you have more specific questions, fire away or PM me.
