Is this too much rust to hassle with? (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

I found a 2002 LX470 with 80k miles on the clock with a good interior.

But …

There is, possibly, too much rust to mess with it at any price.

Apart from the rust, the body looks straight. The AC wasn’t working when I saw it but that’s fixable. It would need a timing belt and water pump (it’s just that time).

The gauges work and it’s not throwing any CIL. It does have the Nav-Climate radio - so that’ll have to come out.

Pics attached. Would you touch this for say .. $12-$14k? Any value it has is purely based on the low mileage.

Thanks in advance.

I drive a rust belt Cruiser and no chance I’d pay more than $7k for that. I second what @MongooseGA said and would add, someone will have went through a lot of maintenance on a higher mile rig. On this one, that will likely be you.

Thanks everyone. We’re staying away.

We found a similar one in much, much better shape - no rust - with slightly higher mileage for a lower asking price.

But not the Mrs is eyeing lx570’s … I suppose we’ll be at this for a bit.

Thanks again.

Wouldn’t take it if it was free. Don’t hate yourself that much! Good call.

I don’t see a major issue with the rear diff housing. They all look like that at some point in the northeast. They don’t rust through and the internals aren’t affected. The rest of the truck looks typical for the NE also. Southern trucks will always look cleaner obviously.

My 292k Minnesota lx470 looks better underneath
