Unfortunately for me, I am spending 30 minutes of my time to get this charge reversed. Be warned, do not do business with vintageteqparts.com or @ToyotaMatt. With luck many of the customers will file chargebacks with me and he will have his existing merchant acct closed or at least waste his time as much as he has wasted mine.

I haven’t checked in here for a while, but I can’t believe this guy is still a member and still pulling this BS. When I messaged him last year once a month for 3 months asking where my order was, he sent me this lunatic rambling via mud PM which he later deleted, blocked me of course, and then included this printout with my order.

I feel for both sides. I’ve had my ‘stuff’ with this topic. I’m certain that what happens - isn’t intentional. Yet - it happens.

I still purchase select items from time to time. iMessaging often works, not always, but often enough.

hate that it is at someone's personal expense, but it is definitely a better than another "how big of a tire can I fit on stock rims and stock suspension?" thread.

@DeskJock I hope you mean you feel anger for the side that takes order and money and then does not respond when you say you feel for both sides. What else could you feel?
without a doubt, I understand the frustration and anger.

there is a part of me that empathizes with Matt.

When I've had my stuff going on .. I had several folks that reached out behind the scenes pointing out the good and the bad. and, there is both good and bad.

Everything that has arrived from Matt is 100% awesome. Getting it, at times has been bad - not always, sometimes - the stuff arrives quickly.

In my case, he solved two incredibly difficult parts that are unicorns. I spend Triple fetching linkage from eBay ( which didn't work properly together) and other places; when he had brand new looking parts that solve me Frankensteining a factory carb when I removed the AFI system that failed.

so .. I get it.

I have an OEM / New Alternator and Starter ( and some other stuff) - the aftermarket versions of these are now back ups.

This is probably the craziest vendor I've ever seen.. The fact that he took the time to print out a Wikipedia definition and hand write you a note WITH your order is insane. Can MUD restrict vendor status over b.s like this?

Edit: ah.

ya ... that .. that was unusual to say the least.

What's even more gnarly is that going off all the posts on here (here being 'Mud), he is drowning in orders and keeping up with them.
But he had the time to allocate to printing out the page, writing a passive aggressive note on it and forging his dad's signature.

I don't know how I feel about it. I try not to order from him if I can help it. I feel like I have been in the same situation several times with Matt. While everyone is right the parts are fantastic PERIOD. BUTTTT at the same time why the hell should I have to hassle a person to ship what I ordered. JUST SHIP IT! I have better experiences with Mud classifieds.

I have ordered I think 2 or 3 times for various parts. I think the first time was door locks and somthing else for my 1964 fj40 I remember them taking a while then I posted somthing about being excited for them on my build thread. I remember saying somthing like I cant wait for them to ship. and Matt chimed in on my build thread. I think it had been about a week and a half before they shipped. not too bad.

somwhere with one of the orders he called me on the phone (I guess he got my number off an order) and it was a good conversation and because of the phone call he sent some extras for me and wanted me to test out a grommet he made for the license plate wire through the body. But it was a long call and I remember being at a point were I was about to hang up not because I was mad but because I was running late for work. He likes to talk the nerdy nitty gritty witch I can appreciate but sometimes it goes in circles. The call started at 7 and went to 8:30 something. i did get the grommet and some other goodies like the rubber cap for the body under the gas tank. (this whole thing kinda made me think hey not too bad Ill order again but the call was odd)

3rd time I remember ordering was for starter nut stud and bolts to witch I accentually order 2 of them, was a crazy price (should have done home work) and It took them more than a month. it was so long that I ordered them from spector and they got here before Matt shipped them. I had to buy them somewhere else because i was literally waiting on those to get my 2f started after my engine swap.
The time waiting cheesed me off and I went to the bad sellers beware and posted for the first time. after witch he pmed me and we did get it resolved but it put a bad taste in my mouth. instead of the bolts he sent me a kit to wire up the temp sender in my 2f. witch was fine and I needed that connector. It was a bad enough experince that I said I would not buy parts from him again but then the temp sender union bolt.......

brings me to the last and final time I ordered from him: So long story short the early fj40 temp gage in dash has to work with the longer F 135/145/155 sender unit and because of that it requires a longer pipe to fit in the block. I looked everywhere for this longer pipe for the 1f engines in the classifieds, Master Carr, FB marketplace, SOR but of course Matt had it. It was very pricy. 80$ with shipping. it looks good on the motor but 80$ was steep. but yet again I waited and waited and waited so long that I cut and welded a 2f pipe to make it work for the time being. I did eventually get the one from matt. Below for a picture reference. But guess what, when I was taking apart the old sbc with my automotive students I found that when they swapped in the sbc they reused the oem sensor and the union pipe.... I had had the part the whole time. was it worth the hassel and money... I think not really.

I think what Matt should do is work on less special snow edition parts and focus on getting orders out and focus less on MUD. Once he is caught up join the fun on MUD. The part of all this that pisses me off is the fact that I think If I had not complained I would never have gotten my parts. its a huge waste of my time too. the fact that this keeps happening and I know people are getting screwed out of money or causing other people to get upset. Not to mention that alot of his stuff is marked up (I under stand marking things up though as you gotta make a living)

I have not ordered anything from him since nor do I plan to , most things can be found on city racer, SOR, Cruiser Teq, cruiser corps, the mud classifieds or even ebay. I feel for you guys that have had to deal with this too. It also hurts me to know some ordered expensive things like distributers alternators and starters from him and have had issues. it also really is bad for a small niche community. we want reliable vendors to keep selling/sourcing parts to keep these old 40s going.

Funny thing is almost all of his parts are available from other sources. He just sNoW VeRRShunS them.
that temp sensor thing was hard to find other than his site. but like I said in the post I had the darn thing the whole time and didnt realize it.

Readily available from aftermarket suppliers who also use Toyota-supplier connectors (Yazaki, Sumitumo, Tokai Rika, etc). Once one understands Toyota supply chain, it's pretty simple to get whatever you need.

ok thanks. the 2f one was easy to find. I am pretty sure the early f one was NLA OEM making it difficult to find used. I had found the part number for cross referencing at one point. (I am not talking about the sender itself but the pipe it fits into) I also could just be an idot that could not find the part. even so I am not defending matt it took way to long to get to me and I should not of gotten it from him. that we can agree on.

I just wanted to share my experience to maybe help others. I am not looking for parts at the moment

I have never witnessed a longer, slower, more painful trainwreck in my life.☹️
Agreed. All the threads are fascinating. They are like an endless buffet of misery. It just keeps going... and going... and going. Just when you think orders are all caught up. NOPE! More buyer misery is being served up fresh daily.

I didn't get into the part buying till May 2024; 99% of the conversations regarding parts and supplier is outstanding. These negative threads are not obvious.

I suggestion would be to do what Yelp and others do in a grading process and make that more obvious here on in this forum. That would protect 2nd amendment and push the liability from the forum to the publisher.

Overall, this meeting place is an outstanding resource - even with the warts.

Ha. A regular person should not need intimate knowledge of a multi billion dollar company supply chain network that spans all over the world to get a proper temp sensor for their 40 year old motor.

Simple.

"endless buffet of misery"
That should be a deathmetal band name.
