Is this a slightly modified FJ45 bed? (1 Viewer)

I have been working on a Heep CJ-10a pickup conversion and I have been reading FJ45 threads to get ideas. There is only so much you can do in a tiny cab pickup truck interior, but I have picked up a lot of tips and tricks from the threads here.

Maybe because I have been staring at too many FJ45s, or the toyota bug has bit, or the margaritas were a little too strong, but I thought a FJ headache rack would look great on my 10. I am currently getting one made by Awl_Teq to fit.

But, in my research of Australian CJ-10s, I have found some pictures that look almost like a dead ringer for the FJ45 bed and headache rack. Just a couple changes to the rear, like the lights and Heep in the tailgate.

I know Toyota has shipped stuff without the bed before, and had the bed installed in the country of origin. Is it possible they used left over FJ beds on the CJ-10s over in Australia?

The headache rack and the bed hooks just look way too familiar. Two more pics, and a couple of my project. I am using a M101 trailer bed, it is a lot cheaper.

With a lot more looking and staring at FJ beds, it looks like like I am wrong. Headache rack and hooks look remarkably similar, but the bedside contours are off and the back looks pretty different. I thought Aussies had a later model pickup bed, but I cant find a picture, and most of them run trays anyways.

Oh well, nothing like answering your own question:eek:

Yep, definitely not the same, but you might be able to use one if you really wanted one.

Congrats on owning a desirable jeep! (not many of those out there, IMHO. ;) ) I'd stick with the M101, personally...

There are not too many desirable Jeeps, thats for sure. Most of them are a dime a dozen. I like the looks and utility of this one. With a 4BT it should even get decent mileage!

I am just going to use the headache rack off of a 45 bed. I will leave the actual beds to the vehicles they belong to! The M101 bed turned out pretty good, IMHO.

Thats the first one I have ever seen. That is pretty cool looking. Where are they most common at?

Those pickup trucks are CJ-10s and were only produced in Australia. I have never found much information on them, I think they were a 1 or 2 year thing and very limited production. There are some pics on Google, but that seems to be about it.

Mine is a CJ-10a. It started life as an airforce flightline tug, and towed stuff around the tarmac for Uncle Sam.

It originally had a SD33 Nissan diesel of about 100 HP on a good day, a special TF727 and a NP198 transfer case locked in low range and a dead front axle. It did about 25 MPH flat out, which is fine for the tarmac, but not gonna cut it as a real vehicle.

The previous owners had replaced the NP198 with a D300 and swapped in some 1/2 ton axles. I was going to be happy with the H1 wheels/tires and some 3/4 ton axles, but I found some more rust and a big crack in the frame, and did some research on the SD33 and got worried about it having enough strength to propel the 10 at highway speed.

So I went full retard on it, and got a Cummins 4BT, NV4500, Dana 60/14b, and cut it in half to fix the frame. No really. Cut it in half.

I have been welding the frame up and doing sheet metal work even since. Something to keep me busy, I guess.

I have liked FJ45s for a long time, but I had to jump on this when I found it.

doesn't look at all like a 45 bed. looks like it's based off of rover stuff.

I like that headlight arrangement...
