Is part number 5 in this picture a filter? Also, is it supposed to screw all the way in or only about half way? Mine will screw in only about half way until it starts requiring more force than what seems should be necessary to screw it in any farther. Thanks!

I believe it's called a gas fitter.

And screw it in until it's tight, but don't snap it off or strip the thread. It's a tapered thread so it is self sealing, and will jam up once it's tight

All the above. Originally from the factory the threads had a bit of sealant on them (to prevent galvanic corrosion or just a better seal?? IDK). I use a small dab of Permatex thread sealant (applied to the filter threads) when replacing. FWIW

Depending on year model some have a single hose nipple, others two.
