Gentlemen's

I have seen this truck for sale but i'm not sure about the model .
the owner said it's 73.
what i know the windshield wipers motor down the frame from 70s up to 84 .
And from 69 below the wipers motor on the top of the frame.
Is that correct ?
Thnx

I'm guessing its a mutt, the windshield clamps aren't the clasp type, the steering wheel looks early, the floor mat is definitely later, the sidemarkers on the aprons are 72-ish, the mirrors are 78ish, the front clip is 75 or later (74 had a one piece hood) and I don't believe the roofs were painted white in the early years at all- Of course the rest of the world kept getting the 45's after 1967!!!!
Chrome grills didn't come out until 1973..

With the assumption that

1. The front turn signals are NOT stock, as well as the side view mirrors, and
2. That the steering wheel/column and hood ARE,

you would be looking at a '72 [last year with that wheel/column, first year with that hood] which may have been titled as 'year first sold' '73.

Best

Mark

BTW, that looks like a really solid body; you should buy it.

Kief,

"Louvers"

This truck is an interesting compilation of parts from various years--not necessarily a "bad" thing.

Later production pickups had the heater intake louvers stamped in the sheet metal at the same time as the FJ40s.

The confusion arises from seeing all these parts assembled into one truck.

If it were mine, I would likely "date" this truck by merging the dates from both the stamped frame number and the defining cab shell characteristics.

Local governmental jurisdictions would probably rely only upon the stamped frame number, and not seeing a standard VIN configuration there, may simply accept the owner's statement as to its date of manufacture. Each country has its variations, as does each US state where it may be registered.

I agree with Mark that it's 72. louvers stamped in the cowl started with the 72 model. Same with the one piece hood. Turn signal are later but once those turn signal were used the amber clearance lights in the apron when away. Also never seen the pre 75 one piece doors with those mirrors. Those came to the US two model years after the one piece doors started. That type steering wheel and steering column ended in 72. Not sure about the pickups but 73 had a major seat change. The frame on this one is early. Turn signal on the 69 thru 74 were not the best and cheapest easy fit was later style turn signals. Mirror on the doors just drill some holes and bolt on. There would be a huge market for this cruiser in the US. Problem is getting it here from the Middle East where there more common because Toyota continued to import then thru the end of Prodction. Just another reason we have to say thank you to Toyota USA.

Thanks guys for clear information .
