If I had that ladder rack it would be scraped off on the first rock I drove by.

I'd like to find a ladder or design one that is removeable, maybe half length.
 
That ladder design looks sketchy to me. Can't tell, but looks like it firmly attached to rack and to the frame. Might not work so well during articulation with associated frame twist/body flex.

I have one similar to that that attaches to the top of the roof rack and rests on the top sidewall rubber of the rear tire(s).

Off for wheeling...on for loading. Simple, clean and removable.
