Hello there.... I am new to the 70 series but no stranger to land cruisers or mud. Just started browsing around in the 70 forum and have fell in love. On the bottom of page 7 in the 70 series registry there is a 2010 FZJ76. I have to have one. How do I get it??????????:bounce:

Probably none in the USA... and it would be a little challenging to get one into the USA. Even saying "pretty please" to Toyota has not made them change their minds about bringing in Land Cruisers to North America.

Oh, and it would be much nicer to have VZJ or an HZJ. Gassers suck.

Terrible fuel economy, lack the simplicity of the diesels, terrible fuel economy, too much emissions BS, terrible fuel economy, don't like to run when underwater or soaked to the gills, terrible fuel economy...

PS: they get lousy fuel economy.
 
Hmm. That's funny as my fzj 79 is cheaper to run than my mates with hzj79s and loads more power than the slug 1hz, yes even off road my ute will chug through boggy sand on 500 rpm
also water in river crossings I've done never had dramas , lots of u tube clips in S.A of fzj71s driving in rivers with water on the bonnet
lack of simplicity .... But you did mention the vdj they have more plugs, wires than any thing

if I was to upgrade the only diesel I'd buy would be a vd as no more petrol utes in aus
but I do understand and the end of the day each to there own

...along with 8 of the very expensive new style high pressure injectors, that seem like they might be easily damaged by bad fuel.

That is probably what would worry me most about the 'new' turbo diesel V8, the cost of the injector replacement after damaging them with bad fuel or when needed under service.

If those really are petrol powered, then I'm impressed.

Regarding the VDJs, I kind of hope that they arrive here just so we can have a fresh batch of new diesels. But on the other hand, so many of the new technology diesels have very expensive problems that just didn't seem to crop up in the old smokers of 15 or 20 years ago.

Why no more petrol utes in Aus?

If only that was the case here...

I have no love for petrol powered Crusiers, but then all the ones that I see here and work on are older units with annoying fuel injection problems that are mostly related to old age and worn out components that few people want to spend the money to repair.

yep there petrol powered for sure
i hear lots of elec faults on the vdjs from mates that use /work on them underground but never heard of probs with them of mates that have them as normal work utes ie not minning utes
they have good grunt and power for a smelly diesel and would be my only option anyways if i upgraded to a newer 79 , id never buy a 1hz powered ute to slow ,gutless, and no good for my needs
but good for some peoples needs like my old man who had his hzj75 for 14 or so years and never had a drama in saying that there is the fair share of 1hz's that are clapped out smoke blowers i guess you never see these as you never got them in your market as such

Not to sure why no more petrol utes in aus i guess not as popular demand as the diesels ..now that they have a diesel that isnt the slowest thing on the road there prob isnt much difference between power of the grj -vdj as there was hzj-fzj

it took me a fair few months to find a petrol 79 series was nearly going to go over east and bring one back ,

but not as stock as they came .. all those FunRace FZJ71 and all Venezuelan gassers that are in those dutys have compessors that pressurized the distributor or in the case of 71 ( that have 3 coils 2 per cylinder ) marine silicone everywhere ..

And after all those gasser are not that bad to the water at all ..
 
An fzj cruiser would be nuts and i'd love to try one out, less dependable than a diesel... Hmm I'm not sure as there are tons of old 80's still driving around with those engines in them. And it isn't hArd to find 2uzf engines with 400k kms that still run very well. But if you Are comparing with a 3fe then ya they are s***.

how many LPG tanks you need to carry in a long ( said something like 2K km .. ) trip .. ?

Hello,

1FZ-FE-powered Cruisers are dependable, provided you follow the maintenance schedule and keep them greased. If you do, you are in for a treat, with power to spare.

Fuel mileage may not be as good as a diesel but is decent. I have seen smaller, 4-cylinder gasoline engines, consuming as much as the 1FZ under the same conditions.

Regarding the 3F engine, a well maintained one delivers. However, mileage is not that good, at least to me. But that is just my opinion.

$69 will get me about 580ish km on gas , mates with diesel 75s and 79s get around low 600 kms per tank but pay more per tank
And I get plenty more power Than a na 1hz,

My 2H-TI would give to me ( camping expedition loaded ) 36 - 38km/g HW .. ( you know Tencha specs ) and Marilu will do as much 28km/g loaded as same .. on 315 ..

Don't know your countries import laws, but you should get the LHD models in middle east countries like Dubai, Arab emmarates, Kuwait etc. Import a 1FZ 76, if they still are...... All 70's running with the 4.0 V6 of the Prado & Hilux.
 
I was dead keen to get a new FZJ 79 back in 2005, priced it, thought about it then decided not to. Glad I didn't, the bloody thing would've broke me, since a lpg tank sticking through the tray was just not going to happen, the petrol bill would've been murder. Right now I'm really warming to the idea of a new VDJ 79 trayback, will be a couple of months away, but I think it's going to happen. Saying goodbye to my trusty old HJ 45 is going to hurt though.:crybaby: I've taken a new cab chassis for a spin and I think they're great, go like the clappers. Will have to install a good water trap/filter though, water in a common rail diesel equals a wallet emptying experience. Also thinking about getting the optional difflocks and I'll really lean on the bastards to throw in the air con for free. Trying to charge $2500 plus for A/C in 2010 is criminal.:censor:
